Before I say anything, I promise I'm not trying not to be rude to anybody.
Really you both are being a bit close minded. Emo, does in fact, come from punk, but like punk EMO is also a style, and though there are the kids that cut themselves and wear the style of EMO, not all of them are. I know quit a few cutters who, if you didn't know them, you wouldn't know they cut. They dress normally and from an outside view have a fairly normal life. Also true that there are some kids who dress in the EMO style and cut themselves, some for no reason, but other than wanting to fit in, and some because they honestly have a bad life. Again not trying to offend anybody here. If you and your friend don't like emo, that's fine there isn't anything wrong with not liking a style or the people who do cut, I get not liking that, but please remember that that's a stereo type for emo's much like the stereo type for punks; that they smoke pot, drink and other drugs hardcore. So seriously please don't go hating on anybody else's beliefs it's stupid and extremely counter-productive.

Just because they are somewhat linked doesnt mean she doesnt have a right to not like it. A bunch of kids cutting themselves and crying over nothing and trying to be hardcore makes me sick. Im proud to call myself a punk and say FUCK EMO!
