What is this? The story - did you come up with it and the characters?

Kinda. i mostly took inspiration from two works concerning David Bowie- Ziggy Stardust and The Man who Fell to Earth. The former tells of a rockstar who prophetises the arrival of dimension-hopping aliens who will save the Earth from the resources crisis that would have killed humanity, and lastly sacrifices his life so that they can take on material form. The latter is about an alien who comes to Earth to take some of its water on his draught-stricken planet, but since Earth is not in an advanced enough technological state, he teaches humans new inventions...just to be thwarted right before leaving with a prototype spaceship when one of his scientist discovers he's an alien. My character's backstory follows mostly Ziggy's, just, it's not the Earth that is dying, but Mars. About 4 billion years aago, Mars lost its magnetic field and thus water and oxygen- a reference to The Man who Fell to Earth. He is one of the last survivors who used some wacky psychic power to transcend matter, waitng for a propitious environment to manifest again. Just like the aliens in Ziggy, the manifestation in itself required an appropriate organic structure, one where the molecules of life had already coalesced. Sadly, that receptacle was a human being, torn apart and then reconstituted ina new form...one that mixed martians and human traits, in the picture, the one on the left. That's the whole point: my character's life is divided into two sections, his life on Mars, represented by his alien appearance on the right, and his life from his rebirth onwards, almost 4 billion years later. In the rp group I've made this character for, there's some weird business going down about dreams...characters being tempted by their greatest desires while asleep. His greatest desire is to return home, to the time when Mars thrived, when everything was right...but still, as a being with psychic powers, he can tell that it's just a lure. Thanks for the appreciation! Other details I've missed you can probably find in other deviations in this same folder, and this rp group is very cool.

Been travelling too. Glad you liked the concept- in a manner of speaking, all that we are, all that defines us, is our experience of the world around us, how we react to it. The ideas of familiarity and nostalgia are probably connected to this behaviour, to the point we can aftualy identify ourselves, or part of ourselves, as the world we find most influential over our character.
