Description
So I recently got in touch with MatthewGillUCEF , a really nice guy from the UK who liked Spectres of the Empire so much he's shared it with his friends, and he just so happens to have his own SWTOR fanfiction about the would-be Sith Zanleya and her trials at the Academy on Korriban: Sith Lord Kharvak's got his eye on Zanleya to take her as his disciple, but first she has to survive Harkun's sadism and her schoolmates' as well. I proposed I could draw Zanleya as thanks for his support, and here it is, not my best, but a very challenging piece where I've experimented on some slightly different techniques. Hope you like it, and check out Matthew's work, too!Note: I'm not accepting commissions right now although I may at some point in the future. As far as anyone else's concerned, the art I make for other people is merely a gift which I don't believe needs to be justified. So please be patient if you aren't getting your own art even though you follow me, it's not just intentions that matter here, but time, inspiration, and motivation as well.

I must say, for some reason it is the figure in the back--Lord Kharvak, I assume?--who grabs my attention the most. I think it must be the powerful yellow glare, and for some reason the slightly messy hair makes him feel very alive.
I'm not 100% sure about Zanleya's pose/proportions, in the legs. However, I very much like her armor. I have to say, though, I always wondered with that particular armor, and Thanaton's as well, whether that armor piece going up the sides of her face would be uncomfortable to wear. I cannot imagine I would have a very pleasant expression either, if I had to wear that!

Proportions were tricky considering the pose, that's one thing I aim to improve. As for the armour, I once toyed with the idea of doing a Kallig cosplay with that particular piece. I think that a real-life version wouldn't be all that uncomfortable. I go skiing at times, and the whole equipment is not too bad once you get used to it. Now, I'm not saying it would be pleasant to keep it on under the blazing sun of Korriban, and it certainly isn't practical. Glad you liked Kharvak, it was fun to design his armour, and his skin contrasts nicely with the black apparel.

Oh, you wear something like that when you are skiing? I didn't know that. What exactly IS that, then, and are you able to turn your head?
I can see where that would get uncomfortable on Korriban. But then cold climates are something I try to avoid. Korriban would be more pleasant to me than the cold, snowy mountains of Alderaan!!!
And yeah, that contrast (and especially the focal point of his eyes) really makes Kharvak visually appealing!

No wait, it doesn't LOOK like that, it's just that when you go skiing you necessarily wear a ton of irritating stuff. And real-life clothing would be hopefully weaved so it maintains a minimal practicality, such as making the neck part very elastic. And just because I don't have a weird collar when I ski that doesn't mean I basically feel like I'm in a spacesuit. In fact, pretending I'm in a spacesuit is one way I cope with it. I don't really like hot climates, although I live in a very sunny town. Having the sea close means weather tends to be refreshingly windy most of the time, but I'm happier when it's cold. I get to wear more stuff, I can throw a blanket over my shoulders and pretend it's a cape, I can practice the body-heat preservation techniques taught to me by the Hoth survivalists, so it's cool. It also gives me the chance to tell people who complain about the cold that "I know a very good way to stay warm...But we're gonna need a lot of hydrogen." Stellar Astrophysics jokes. I'm a blast at parties *not true*

Whoops. Like I said, I try to keep away from cold climates as well as dangerous athletic pursuits like skiing, so I didn't know any better.

It's pretty easy to dismiss the various nuisances while you're descending, but once you get on the ski lift (dunno if it's a general term for all the structures that take you to the mountain top, might "cableway" be an alternative?) it all goes downhill. Well, not literally, because you're going uphill, but figuratively, yup.

I've always heard "ski lift." There are trams that take people for sightseeing tours up mountains...that's the US terminology; I have no idea what it would be in the UK.

Hmm, good to know. Here we use "ski lift" to identify a particular means of uphill transportation for ski, that is basically a metal rod with a plastic circle on one end, tied to a cable, that you put between the legs and woooooooshhhhhh there you go upwards, not as uncomfortably as it sounds, but with a good chance you'll slip and fall. Bit like riding a magic broom, just you're not flying.

Because I like to make sure I'm giving correct information especially with subjects where I have lesser familiarity: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ski_lift…
And because American terminology is apparently inconsistent and confusing: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tram?wpr…

As I have already said, it is an amazing piece and I'm really grateful for it! You sell yourself short though my friend, or at least if this is "not your best" then I certainly look forward to whatever you produce that does claim that grand title! Keep up the great work!
But yeah, the contrasting dark and light, Kharvak looming in the back ground, the slain tuk'ata, all of it is incredible!

*blushes* it's very important for me to focus on my mistakes and imperfections, because that way I can identify my weaknesses and improve them. I simply desire more power, like every Sith does. Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Darth Paintbrush the Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the lame artists would tell you.
