Description A lot of you have asked for a third Tenth Doctor x Reader fanfic, but I felt bad about making both of my previous fics specifically for Ten (I've been watching Classic Who nonstop lately and have become a huge Four & Five fangirl), so this time I decided it would be left open for you to pick any Doctor you like! Plus, I tried out some P.O.V. stuff just for the hell of it. Please enjoy~! ^^

---

The wind rushed past you, making all your clothes flap wildly and blowing your hair in your face. Your eyes stretched wide with fear as you fell helpless through the air. The Doctor was kneeling over the edge of the cliff you had just been pushed off of, his hand outstretched toward you, despite there being no hope of catching you. Not now. Your arm was reaching up desperately to him as you cried out, terrified.

"DOCTOR!!"

"______!!" he screamed your name in response, his voice nearly cracking. His eyes were large as he doubled over, defeated, as if he'd been kicked in the stomach. Hard.

'How did it come to this?' he thought sadly to himself.

**flashback**

The TARDIS spun rapidly around, and you were flung to and fro, crashing into the console at one point. That didn't feel too nice. Nevertheless, you kept on laughing and grinning like you always did when you and the Doctor were in flight. No matter how many bruises you got from slamming into the walls, you always came out smiling.

The Doctor stood adjacent to you, on the other side of the console. He grabbed your waist when you came flying in his direction to keep you from getting any more injuries. You didn't take it that way, though, and blushed deeply, not used to such closeness with him. Admittedly, you did like him. A lot. Everything about him was just perfect; he was everything you looked for in someone and so much more. But he never really seemed to notice, even when you dropped some pretty big hints. That was his flaw; he was a handsome, kind genius who constantly saved your life, but he was so utterly oblivious to the most obvious things. Sometimes you just wanted to pull him aside and scream it in his face.

"Careful, love!" His British accent broke your train of thought. You whipped your face up to look at him, smiling like a lovestruck idiot. Yet, as always, he took no notice.

"I'm fine, don't worry," you responded. The ground beneath your feet lurched, and you both stumbled. The Doctor, however, failed to keep his balance, and he fell backward, pulling you on top of him. Your blush deepened even further (which you were sure was an impossibility).

The Doctor smiled that charming smile he always did. Then, he began to chuckle, and that chuckle slowly evolved into a laugh. You giggled after a second, and before long the two of you were laying on the TARDIS floor, laughing like you'd just heard the funniest joke in the world.

He'd pulled you off and turned so that you were facing each other. Your blush had since calmed to a light pink, and you could have sworn you'd seen a similar shade darkening the Doctor's cheeks as well. After a minute the two of you stopped laughing, and you laid next to each other, looking deeply into the opposite's eyes.

Suddenly, he sat up. "Well, let's see where we are!" He stood and offered you a hand. You took it and got up, dusting yourself off. The Time Lord darted over to the console and looked up at the scanner. You walked over and stood next to him, directing your eyes to the outside world.

The TARDIS had landed on a cliff top, it appeared. The terrain was covered in luscious, green, windswept grass, and large, mossy boulders dotted the landscape. You could see over the edge, though it was covered in thick mist. After a quick check of the other scanners, the Doctor determined it was safe. He opened the doors and gestured for you to step out first.

The second you did, a cold breeze hit you. You instantly crossed your arms and tightened up, looking around. The Doctor stepped out, closing the door behind him, and shivered slightly. But the second he saw you, he slipped off his coat and draped it over your shoulders. "Better?"

You looked up at him and smiled. "Much, thanks." He smiled back, all thoughts of the cold gone from his mind. Offering an arm which you gladly took, he escorted you away from the TARDIS, in the direction of the upcoming adventure.

An hour passed, and you found yourself running frantically away from a savage tribe. Since the last time you saw the Doctor, a lot had happened. The pair of you had met the leader of said tribe, and made peaceful relations with him, or so you thought. Evidently, he only acted friendly to you in order to get you to let your guard down. He thought you were both better being traded off as slaves than left alone and regarded as friendly tourists.

Before you found all of this out, you and the Doctor had eaten a feast with him and the tribe in honor of your arrival, however, both of your meals had been drugged with a native berry that worked similarly to chloroform. You both passed out cold, and the tribe took the opportunity to throw the two of you in a pit until time to sell you into slavery. Night had fallen since then, and you managed to scramble your way out of the pit, with the Doctor's help of course. You would have helped him out too, but before you got the chance, the guard who had fallen asleep had woken up and alerted the rest of the tribe. You bolted out of the camp with the soldiers hot on your heels.

The next thing you knew, you were standing on the edge of the same cliff you landed on. The TARDIS was there, and you were pulling at the door handle trying desperately to get in. You had only been travelling with the Doctor for a little while, and you didn't have your own key just yet. Personally, you didn't consider it a big issue, however it was proving to be quite a setback at this particular moment. As you scrambled to get into the blue box which provided guaranteed safety from the primitive tribesmen, you gasped and backed away as your pursuers finally caught up.

They backed you all the way to the edge of the cliff, and you collapsed in despair when you ran out of room. You craned your neck over your shoulder to look down; the mist was gone, and down below was a dark ocean crashing up relentlessly against the side of the cliff. It was a long way down, and you couldn't tell how deep the water was. The waves roared menacingly, increasing your dread. But the worst part was when you looked back up at the tribe; in their midst was the Doctor. He looked frantic, absolutely panicked. You were sure they'd forced him out of the pit and took him with them so he could be there when they recaptured you. Yet, something seemed off. Perhaps it was the way they were looking at you, or how they were holding their freshly-sharpened spears, but either way something told you they weren't planning on taking you back to the camp. And they certainly weren't letting you go.

Your fears were realized when the tribal leader appeared from amongst the crowd. He stood towering over you, a gloating smirk on his fat, painted face. His feathery crown blew gently in the wind as he spoke. "You caused a lot of trouble for us, little girl. I decided that you just weren't worth all the trouble you caused. Shame that your friend will have to watch you die!" He turned and disappeared into the crowd once more, and a soldier stepped forward and looked down at you. He smirked before bringing up his foot and pressing it up against your stomach, flattening you against the ground. Another soldier walked up, dragging behind him a bag full of large, heavy rocks. He held your leg down and tied the attached string around it. A resounding shriek erupted from the group; it was obviously the Doctor's voice.

"No!"

The soldiers pushed your side with their feet and in one, swift motion, you were falling.

**back to the present**

Cold.

That was the first thing that hit you. Cold, and weightlessness.

Well, as weightless as you could be with a bag of rocks tied to your leg. Memories of the past day flooded back to you and your eyes shot open, the saltwater stinging them a bit. You ignored the pain and moved your hands down quickly to the string as you scrambled to untie the knot. Damn, how many times did that stupid neanderthal tie this thing? Five? Six?

It didn't matter, in retrospect. No matter how many times you tried, the knot stayed perfectly unaffected. And you were running out of air. Eventually, your vision started to darken. 'No..' you thought desperately. 'Please..it can't end like this. Doctor...' Then everything went totally dark.

She was gone. He couldn't save her. The Doctor felt his hearts stop as he doubled over, burying his hands in the grass. "Do you have any idea what you've done?" he whispered quietly, slowly looking up at the tribe. Suddenly, something in his psyche snapped. "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA AT ALL?!"

He stood up and walked quickly toward the tribe, making them all back up. "You just pushed my companion, one of the few people I care about in this universe, off a bloody cliff! You just killed one of the most important people in my pointless life!!" As his voice got louder, the savages backed up further and further. "Do you even understand the implications of what you've just done?! DO YOU?!!" He snatched a spear from the tribe member closest to him, snapping it on his knee. "I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT!!!" The tribe turned and ran, dropping their spears in the process. The tribal leader took the same course of action, screaming his head off all the way. Throwing the spear halves on the ground, the Doctor breathed heavily, gritting his teeth. Quickly, he pulled out his TARDIS key and got inside, piloting the ship to your location.

When he materialized, he opened the door and fished you out of the dark water, some of which got inside in the process. But that didn't matter. Dragging you up to the backside of the console, the Time Lord pressed his head against your chest. Your heart was still beating, but slowly, and you weren't breathing. He slapped your hand and face gently a couple of times, trying to wake you. When he got no response, he laid you down and, without a moment's hesitation, pressed his lips to yours, injecting your body with air. Then, he pressed firmly on your chest with both his hands. "One, two, three," he said to himself, before repeating the action. A minute or so passed of this, and he became more and more panicked. "Come on, damn it!" he muttered under his breath. "Breathe, you silly girl, breathe!"

Consciousness returned to you as your chest heaved. You coughed and spat up bursts of salty water and began to breathe again, although, you hardly had the time to do so as the Doctor's arms gripped your waist tightly, hugging your soaked, bruised body close to his. A hot blush filled your cheeks and the freezing cold was gone for a moment as you tentatively hugged him back. His hands moved up your body and grasped the sides of your head, turning you to face him. You were so close...inches apart.

"Thank Rassilon you're alright!" he breathed out heavily, pressing his forehead to yours and closing his eyes, smiling. You began to shake and your arms wrapped tightly around his neck. You pulled your face away and buried it in his chest as you began sobbing miserably. You couldn't help it; you almost died for fuck's sake. The Doctor understood and began hugging you again, one hand wrapped around your back, gripping you tightly, and the other gently stroking your hair while he whispered comforting words in your ear.

"I thought I was going to die..." you managed to say through the sniffling. The Doctor kept whispering in your ear. "I know, love. I know. You're okay now, I promise. It's all okay."

"I thought I would die before I.." you kept on, but couldn't find the words. It was all too much. You just sobbed more into his chest, the beating of his hearts comforting you somewhat. "Before what, ______?"

You just couldn't get it out. "Before I told you.."

"What?"

"Before I told you I love you, okay?!" You pulled away and curled up, resting your arms and head on your knees. The fear of rejection crept over you, and you began shaking. That and the cold was finally coming back to you.

Instead, the Doctor crawled over on his hands and knees toward you, and sat in front of you. He grasped your hands with his and pulled your arms to your sides, forcing you to look up at him. In one, quick motion, he launched himself forward and kissed you deeply. At first, you tensed up, surprised by the feverish gesture. But after a second, you calmed down and relaxed completely, closing your eyes and shyly returning the kiss. The salty, hot tears finally stopped flowing as the pair of you embraced.

After a moment, the cursed need for air separated you, and the Doctor opened his eyes. You did the same. He began smiling again, and stood, offering a hand. Taking it, you were pulled into a hug. You laughed, finally feeling good again. He looked at you thoughtfully for a moment before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a key. "Take this," he said. "I meant to give it to you sooner. Better I do so now than have something like this happen again." You beamed. Finally, your own TARDIS key! The Doctor smiled. "I love you too, silly girl. It's not just because of the accent that I constantly call you 'love', you know." he said, nuzzling you. You giggled and playfully pushed him off.

"Stop it, Doctor!" you squealed as you ran around the console. He promptly gave chase. This game kept up for a few minutes until you crashed into each other and flopped on the floor, exhausted. Panting and sweaty, the Doctor looked over at you. "I could use a shower..." You blushed, picking up on the hint.

Without warning, the Doctor stood up and scooped you up, holding you bridal style. "Let's go get cleaned up." He smiled and you blushed with wide eyes as he carried you through a door and into the TARDIS bathroom.

And, as they say, the rest is history.
