Description
Here's another piece from my AP portfolio! This one's also a 100 themes challenge: #17, Blood. As always, this one's up for individual interpretation. It's whatever you think it is.
The technique for this one was a little wierd. I've been trying to keep all of the 100 themes pieces in the watercolor medium. But on this one, I also wanted the blotchy, splashy effect you get when a drop of liquid hits the ground. In order to do this, it meant getting the brush wet enough to squeeze a drop of water from it. When I tried this with watercolor, though, the color was too washed out and nowhere near dark enough for the effect I wanted. So in the end I had to resort to using watered down acrylics, but to my happiness it still looks a lot like watercolor. It was still a little tricky to keep the balance of paint and water correct, though, and took some time and frustration to getting it looking like this. Anyway, once I figured out the paint, it was several hours of standing above a piece of paper dripping paint onto it from several feet above. Needless to say, my hands were quite red once I was done.

Thanks! Probably more quaint than practical, but I still like the way it turned out.

it's still a neat effect... I probably would have paint-protected a large area and "flung" the paint onto the paper... but I don't pain that much, so... I dunno
Good luck with your portfolio!
