Beauty

Dedicated to all who feel like what they do isn't worth it.

I said, “God, I’m lost.
Everyone I care about has drifted away.
All the things I love have faded and disappeared.
Everything I do turns to dust.
No one seems to notice the beauty I create.”

God said, “Keep going, when all hope seems lost.
Keep loving, when all love seems dead.
Keep creating, when it seems like nothing’s left.
Keep trying, and make something beautiful
Even when it seems like nothing matters.”

And so I took the beauty in my heart, and tried to bring it to the world.

I said, “I have made something, God, but it is not beautiful.
I have made this, but it falls short of what it shows.
It is nothing, it is ugly.
It cannot contain what I need it to say.
No one will care for this terrible thing.”

God said, “Do not fear, and do not hate.
You must show what you have made.
Your doubt blinds you from what is right before your eyes.
Take what you have made, and show it to the world
Even when it seems like no one cares.”

And so I took what I had made and exposed it to the world, exposed it to the scorn and hate of everyone who sees.

And someone said, “Thank you.
At a time when it seemed like all the beauty in my life had gone…
This is exactly what I needed.”
