Description Here’s the video of the speed draw: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aa3P5q…

Yeah, I’m pretty late to the public outrage of Australian federal policy regarding the fire, but dammit it’s the same unacceptable blasé attitude Brazil had for the Amazon fire and it’s hastening the effects of climate change. Fucking Scott Morrison and his love affair with coal. There was an internet rumor that claimed wombats were herding animals into their burrows to escape the flames, but the reality is that they just weren’t kicking the trespassers out.

*edit* So it seems this page became a target for a 50-something climate change denier who took my arguments and sources, rebutted them with some truly interesting scholarly articles and some crackpot bullshit, then topped it off with an ad hominem. I blocked him for insulting me. Then, I decided that I didn’t want him to be able to edit his comments and insult me further, so I’m removing them. Luckily, if you are as interested as he in reviewing exceedingly petty internet drama, you can find where he archived it here: archive.is/1aBW8

I have learned a lesson in engaging with internet strangers. Took me long enough!

I think that too many people are missing the point. For the last 200 years, essentially since the British arrived in force, they have been trying to rebuild almost all of Australia to be more like the Europe they left behind. They've done so well that the old climate systems have failed without the time for new ones to evolve in their place. They can't put things back any time soon, few people in Australia probably really want to and fewer still would be willing to pay for it. The most amazing images from Australia haven't been the fires but desperate politicians trying to force people to shake their hands like everything is fine.

Then again, I just learned  that there are Rock Paper Scissors Tournaments in Japan, restoring my faith that the goodness of innocence still exists in the world.

You’re absolutely right about the negative impacts of Europeans trying to make other countries have European environments- I live in California, where the impacts of fire suppression culture of the last hundred years is going to cause firestorms for the next seventy at least. Plus european beach grass that chokes out the rest of the beach diversity that was put in to halt the shifting dunes, which turns out to harm the rest of the environment, ughhhh. On the plus side, kittens exist, so there’s that.

AH, this reminds me of Scandinavia and the World...which I haven't read in a long while now.

The flag trunks did it, right? Haha, I just wanted to make it really obvious who that was without a sign and an arrow.

Trying to recreate coral reefs is like trying to stop a leaky dam with your thumb: its not going to work, its barely feasible short-term, and it shows a reluctance to fix the bigger issue at hand. It’s a bad situation all around.

It’s supposed to be coal, but getting specific, recognizable textures on rocks is pretty dang hard. I’ll have to practice, haha
