Yeeep, I did one of these! It looked like a fun little exercise, but in the end I realized that for the most part I have the influences of a child. Oh well!

From left to right, starting at the top:

1. Star Wars - or, more appropriately, the Art of Star Wars book I got back in 1996. I was 8 and the concept art for A New Hope blew my mind.

2. Calvin and Hobbes - duhhh

3. Jim Henson - One of the greats! Made me love puppets of all kinds.

4. The Far Side - Gary Larson is a super nerd but a hilarious one. I DEVOURED Far Side books as a kid.

5. Studio Ghibli films - They constantly amaze me with their imagination. I've seen and loved all their movies. Even Tales from Earthsea!

6. Scott McCloud - Any comics person should probably have him on their map.

7. Terry Gilliam - My favorite film director, a guy with a singular artistic vision that lets nothing get in his way! But it always does. A real underdog!

8. Pokemon / Vidja Games / Crappy Animes I Watched in Middle School - pretty self explanatory.

9. David Bowie - My favorite musical person. They way he constantly re-invents himself is really cool along with how it seems like he's always a step ahead of everyone else. He might really be an alien, I dunno.

10. Bad Sci-Fi B-Movies - I grew up watching these without knowing they were bad. But I loved them. Try watching one without the MST3K guys sometime!

11. Pixar - Definitely the best 3D animation studio today, along with some of the best storytellers in film, period.

12. Satoshi Kon - R.I.P. homie

13. Jules Verne / H.G. Wells / Old Timey Sci-Fi - Even with the antiquated writing, they're still fresh and exciting. Finishing "Journey to the Center of the Earth" was one of my greatest childhood accomplishments. And then I read it again immediately afterwards.

14. National Geographic - There's so much crazy stuff on Earth and Nat Geo manages to package it in magazine form every month. Started me on my love of animals and nature.

15. DINOSAURS - Pretty much every kid loves dinosaurs, but I still do! They really get your brain going about the possibilities of life on Earth.

16. Ren and Stimpy - John K. might be kind of a perv, but his animation is top-notch.
