You know, when it comes to our beloved cartoon characters, one thing we're afraid of is them becoming bastardized overtime.

In media nowadays, we are expected to see potshots to modern adaptations like Alvin and the Chipmunks and it's very easy to know why the potshots were made.

But this animation actually does a great job in actually making a great statement about nostalgia and its toxicity.

In this animation, we get to see how the classic character represents the nostalgic fan's bad side. Namely, it's the fear of how the modern incarnation will replace and ruin the originals. And throughout the runtime, we get to see how Ollie is that desperate in not wanting to be outperformed. However, when it seems like she's winning, she learns that the animators who made Olivia, her modern counterpart, still cares about her and is just trying to adapt and evolve her for the new generation, not change her completely out of the idea she's outdated. It goes to show that the modern adaptation is made out of love, not out of relevancy.

If there's anything this short can teach us, it's that we should not let our nostalgia blind us from seeing something that's potentially great. And while we are aware that some modern adaptations are very awful (looking at you, Alvin and the Chipmunks), that doesn't mean they all are. We should keep an open mind with modern adaptations and judge them when they come out.
