Description I finally finished my half of the trade with Rosa ( ). She asked for a realistic drawing of Finn. I assumed that meant the Finn from Adventure Time. And after I finished, I realized... wait, her fursona's name is Finn, too! SO you know what they say about assume? It really does make an a** out of u and me, especially me. Because I think I drew the wrong Finn. Maybe not, I am waiting for her to respond to my comment, but... I find it more likely that she would ask for a drawing of her fursona.

Anywho, I might as well say I little bit about the piece itself. I honestly think it came out pretty well, considering my expectations. I've had little to no practice with human proportions, anatomy, and facial expressions. I did a lot of rework and fixing on the original sketch, and I think it paid off because Finn looks decent here. I also spent a considerable amount of time with the shading of his skin. And I have found that I love painting skin. NO FUR. I mean, I've never realized how annoying fur was to paint until I painted a subject that had none. Except for that little bit that sticks out from under his hoodie. Speaking of which, I was going to make a more skin-tight sort of thing, but I just decided to go with a more loose like you'd find on a real jacket. It turned out looking a bit more thick and chunkier that I intended, but oh well. It'll keep him warm on all his adventuring. The most frustrating part was the lips. Oh my gawsh, they were a nightmare! I kept re-painting and re-shading and re-coloring... and they still don't look quite right! Sorry, Rosa! >.<

So....

I still need to include this....

It's adventure time,
c'mon grab your friends,
we'll go to very distant lands.
With Jake the dog and
Finn the human, the
fun will never end,
it's adventure time!

Actually I think I'll try to expand the scope of my subjects. I don't want to be limited to painting only what I'm "good" at.

Would you mind sharing exactly what you think is wrong with this piece so I can improve my work next time?

Ah, I see.
Well, nothing is "wrong" with it, it just looks somewhat odd because Finn is much younger looking and un-serious.

Well, if you say so.

So you were judging the piece based on its resemblance to the character Finn, not skill regarding anatomy/technique/ect?

he looks old and ugly, his neck is odd and his hat doesnt look like that, the shading definately isnt your best.
yes i know this sounds rude, but, my mean opinion.

On the contrary, I'm glad you've spoken how you feel about the piece. I will work on avoiding such problems the next time I paint a human face.

That is awesome! I love it! Its amazing! I'd rather have that now instead of my fursona I've seen Adventure Time a few times on TV, and it really does look like him. You said you weren't good at drawing humans, but this is incredible

Auugh, so you did mean your fursona! Why didn't this occur to me sooner? I'm sorry!

Well, I'm really glad you still like it. And thank you very much for the compliment.

I can still paint Finn the Fursona sometime if you want. Maybe not now, because I'll be working on my dad's gift. But I can do it, if you'd still like to see me paint him.

Nahh, it was my fault. I wasn't clear enough. I just said Finn. I could have meant a fish fin
You don't have to paint him if you don't want to Maybe if we ever do another art trade? Maybe then

Alright, when we do another trade sometime.

It wasn't your fault either! I should have figured it was your 'sona anyways.
