This is my first time drawing an elf owl, and for the most part, I think it was a good attempt. This is my OC Rin from the Guardians of Ga’Hoole RP I’m in and here’s some info on her.

Name: Rin

Gender: Female

Species: Elf owl

Age: 4

Description: She’s a grayish-brown bird with some dark feathers at the edges of her wings, she has pale yellow eyes highlighted by thin white eyebrows, and a gray bill with a horn-colored tip.

Chaw: Blacksmithing

Personality: Rin loves to blacksmith and whenever she has to do her job she’ll pretty much be excited to do it. Even though she’s short she doesn’t mind as being an elf owl that’s a blacksmith is very rare nowadays and she likes to do things differently. She can be a fun owl to be around, she likes to have fun, and she definitely wouldn’t mind drinking bingle juice. When she drinks her most fun zone is on and she’ll play any games, even drinking games. When she’s dared to do something she doesn’t hesitate to take on that dare. She’s a wild owl after all.

Backstory: Rin was born in the Desert of Kuneer and her life seemed like it was going pretty well as her parents were raising her but after she finally learned how to fly her Mother became very ill all the sudden and it wasn’t long until she then passed on. After her mother passed on, Rin’s father changed a lot from a very loving father to a miserable drunk. While Rin’s father was drinking, Rin had to do a lot of work to provide for the both of them. When her Father was drunk when she was very little he was pretty fun but now he continued to drink nonstop of misery and sometimes even yelled at Rin, even when she didn’t do anything wrong. Rin missed her Mother and if she hadn't passed on her Father probably wouldn’t have been a miserable drunk. She sometimes wished she could go back in time to relive the good times she had with her parents because back then she wasn’t stressed about anything at all. She felt like that not only did she lose her Mother but she lost her Father as well.

One day, while returning back from some hunting her Father was of course found drunk and she didn’t expect much out of him. Back then she tried to tell her Father that he needed to stop what he was doing and help her out and that she missed him as much as she missed her Mother but he didn’t listen and continued to drink. There was no longer a point in even trying to convince him to stop drinking. Out of nowhere her Father started to yell at her and how it was all her fault that her Mother died. How was it any of her fault? She helped her Dad to heal her Mom but it seemed like it was time for her to go to Glaumora. Rin then started to yell at her Father on how he should be ashamed of himself because he couldn’t help her out or even give her the love and support she needed after her Mother died and how she had to do all the dirty work while he was drinking a lot. They argued for a very long time and then all the sudden her Father slapped her across the face. Rin was shocked by what her Father did as he never did this sort of thing towards her.

After her Father slapped her across the face, it was clear now even when he was drunk that he didn’t care anymore. The once loving Father just had no love or sympathy towards her anymore. Rin had enough and decided to do the one thing she wished she didn’t have to do. Without another word towards her Father she packed what she could and as she was her Father continued to yell at her but she ignored him completely as talking to him would make no difference. When she was all packed she left her home and left Kuneer for good.

As Rin was flying to find a new home she heard that the Northern Kingdoms were offering some promising jobs and some good shelter so she decided to venture there. She wasn’t an expert on navigating and often had to ask some owls for directions so she could get to the Northern Kingdoms faster. After a while she eventually found the Northern Kingdoms and it was very cold there and she felt like she should’ve thought things through but Rin also felt like it was too late to turn around now. So she continued on flying but as she flew on she was getting way too cold and tired. Things got worse from there when she flew into a snow storm. It was hard to fly in it and oftentimes she lost her course. She could barely move her eyelids and her wings and it felt like the snow was turning her into an icicle. Rin was starting to regret trying to go to the Northern Kingdoms as elf owls could barely stand the snow but knowing her she liked to do things differently.

Before she knew it she found herself falling from the sky and in the process dropping her items, most of them breaking. Rin wanted to scream but she was in a yeep state to even scream. It was probably it for her, she would end up like her Mother… It wasn’t long until she passed out. Unbeknownst to her though, fate had other plans for her.

Rin thought she was dead but she woke up to find herself in a croft being tended to by a couple of healers. She had a warm blanket on her and had a warm rag on her head and when the healers saw that she was awake they asked her if she was alright and such and that an owl from the search and rescue chaw found her falling from the sky in the Northern Kingdoms. It was a miracle that she managed to get rescued by that very owl, otherwise she may very much so have been dead. Turns out that the same owl was venturing to the Northern Kingdoms to acquire a few things and Rin was definitely lucky he found her. The healers suggested that she stay in her croft for another night so they could check to see if everything was alright. Rin had questions herself like where she was and the healers did the best they could to answer her questions and Rin was definitely surprised to find out that she was at the Great Tree. She’s heard stories of it from her Mother and she never would’ve thought she would’ve found herself at this very tree as she thought it was just a legend.

When the next night came, one of the owls at the tree was happy to give Rin a tour so she knew where to go and such. He showed her where the dining hollow was, where the library was, and much more but the one area that Rin was fascinated by was the blacksmithing area. The weapons and armor that was being made was like magic to Rin and she never saw anything like this in her life. She never thought about blacksmithing but after witnessing it herself she wanted to try it out. Rin thought that going to the Northern Kingdoms wouldn’t be a bad idea but after witnessing the blacksmithing at the tree she decided that she would pursue the blacksmithing chaw, even though she was pretty short she wanted to tackle something an elf owl would barely go for.

She learned all that she could in the blacksmithing chaw and as she was she became more and more intrigued by this chaw. Rin thought this chaw was more intriguing than the other chaws because in this chaw she could get creative. As she was learning this chaw she did burn herself a few times but as time went on she started to get better at it with the help of the Ryb of it and some other owls in that chaw. She even managed to learn how to have fun again even after what happened back in Kuneer and sometimes she’ll think about her parents but most of the time she would look towards the present and have fun the best she could.

Eventually when it came the time to tapping she was of course tapped to the blacksmithing chaw. Rin was so excited that she had her first bingle juice to celebrate. As she got older she started to get very good at blacksmithing and had a lot of fun. She never regretted being in the chaw she is in now. To this night she is still one of the Great Tree’s finest blacksmiths.
