Try it, I made myself a floor length Mantle with a big hood and have only been getting compliments and asks like "where can I get this". Plus its very warm and served me well during the last winter.
Edit: I guess what I wanted to say is, in my experience people are more accepting of this look than you might think and someone has to start wearing it , in order to get it popular so help me please! XD

Seems fair to me! I think I might look into hydrophobic treatments for waterproofing, too. A few additions as well, like a clip for holding headphone lines, pocket for the phone/music player maybe.

yea go for those pockets! And water is an issue, that is true, I thought about adding a rain cape overlay of some sort for a modern touch and for when the wool stops being water repellent and starts acting like a sponge.

Have you seen the hydrophobic treatments? Check out a video or two; it looks like damn near magic when the water just rolls off absorbent material like it's a sheet of plastic or something. I could imagine that looking amazing on a modern cloak . Sadly I think it's like you said, and it wears off after something like 20 washes. The other thing I would like is funky designs, like personal modern coats of arms or something, but at that point we're well out of my area of skill, knowledge or ability

I thought by hydrophobic treatments you meant waterproofing/impregnating but I just watched a few videos and you are right, science is awesome As far as I understand it, it is coating the surface with a thin layer of something whose nanostructure repells water or oils on a high level and often that is silicon-based stuff I think. I doubt though, that it would work on an extremely rough and absorbant surface like wool, and I think it would wear off faster by mechanical stress. Sadly the wikipedia article on it is very sparse and lacks citations. But it is sure interesting! (And would look super badass).

You mean like a personal family crest? I own a whole book on heraldry that I got gifted for no particular reason. Here again "just" (easier said than done, I know) do it, but I advise you to look into the meanings of some of these symbols they can be so misleading! Also, sure you can do it! We can not allow self doubt to come in the way of our mission!

At this point I am really tempted to make a Facebook group and see if we can promote the way of the cloak. I even checked out a few videos on how to use the cloak for self-defence.
