Hello all, this is another commission (part 2 of 2) for the friendly *Green-Legend .

I'm ashamed to say that this commission took a lot longer to complete the any other commission I've ever done, not because it was hard, but because my personal life got in the way. Damn you personal life, when will you leave me and my artistic intentions alone?

Anyway, I was asked to draw a picture with Van Halen's "You've Got the Touch" as inspiration. So I drew Green Legend in a power pose gripping the title belt in her clenched fist. At first I was just going to go with that, but I felt really bad about taking so long to finish this piece so I went ahead and added other ladies; converting the simple picture into a topless boxing promotional event poster.

First up is Green Legend's opponent, Killer Queen the lizard; a beefy, heavy hitter in-boxer. When I started drawing Killer Queen I just wanted a general biker bitch, but I got listening to some Queen music and things sorta changed. Now she's a SPOILED, SPONTANEOUS, RICH biker bitch, named after the Killer Queen song where even rich people can be tramps and whores. Personality wise though I believe Nathan Explosion explained it best:

"I hate that lady. It’s the most brutal thing ever! It’s not like regular hate! It’s so much… more black! If she were a street gang, I’d fuckin’ go to war with her with bottles and chains!"

Yeah.

The little birdy is Ariana Wing, Featherweight; a desert sparrow from the north eastern part of Africa, named after a flower the blooms there. She's extremely cute, sweet, and quiet, and she takes it all with her into the ring getting knocked around a lot. Of course, there's a limit to how much abuse Ariana can take and once it's reached she turns into a monster. Thus her stamina and strength in the later rounds (Where it's needed) makes her a fearsome opponent, but it's quickly spent and leaves her open for KO's.

The girl Ariana fighting is Cyanin Javanese, Featherweight; a Javanese domestic cat from the Java islands. She's an angry shy blue Asian cat, she doesn't like her picture being taken (hence her hand pushing the camera out of her face; that was the best picture they could find of her) or being in the public eye in general. She assaults the first person she sees when she gets into one of these fits and uses that "embarrassed" fuel to get her through long fights.

All in all I had a lot of fun with this piece even if it did take me forever, it allowed me to get creative and colorful.

Marked mature for the nips.

I am still blown away by your creativity on this one. The set up and lay out along with your well put coloring makes everything just step right out. And you certainly nailed a great PPV poster look.

And seriously, you really got a knack for character creation, Ariana Wing is well thought out and I adore how you describe her. And the ruthless camera shyness of Cyanin is quite interesting, bet she eats annoying little Paparazzi's for dinner . And especially the reasoning behind Killer Queen you told me. Seriously, you must have one hell of a muse watching over you.

Thank you again Fire Pixie.

I'm very glad you enjoy this piece even though it took me so long to complete. *is ashamed* The coloring was fun, I wanted to make this modern vector look for the ladies; plus I can't really stay away from bright colors. x3

Thanks on the characters, they're really fun to think up designs on the spot not to mention giving them little backgrounds. I like the idea of a featherweight boxer (male or female) that can go longer then 4 rounds so I tried to include that stubborn nature in those two featherweights. I forgot to ask, what weight class is Green Legend in, if she has one? Killer Queen has really developed back muscles to help her pack a serious punch and developed leg muscles to keep her grounded, I'm worried she might weigh too much to take on Green. I remembered you mentioned something about wanting to try and get them drawn facing off.

Anyway, you're very welcome!

I think by taking your time and not rushing you churned out one knock out picture. I still adore how much creativity you worked into this, the interesting aspects into the personas of all three of the additional characters you worked into the poster make for quite the background to this.

Hmm, well Green barely hits 145 lbs, so thats light weight, but she has tangled with bigger opponents before. Killer Queen sounds like the scaled chunk of muscle, she'd have quite the advantage over Greenie going into a one on one bout I admit. But definately would love to see about some pics of Queen and Green tangling in battle.

I'll note you soon Fire Pixie

Aw, thank you! I'm glad you like them, they were fun to create, just like your commission.

Oh I see! So Green is heavier then some of her pictures depict. I think Killer Queen would be able to butt heads with Green in a legal match in the ring, she might be taller then Green though, which should be interesting if not funny.

Yeah, Green has some weight to her. No doubt Killer Queen could easily give Green a run for her money, and always is interesting to see two fighters of different sizes have a bout together. Keeps things interesting

I'd guess Junior Bantam, 115. 120 at the most.

That light, really? I always pictured her to be heavier in my minds eye. I suppose it all depends on who's drawing her and for what purpose.

Yeah, It really does. Depending on the artist I could see several different weight classes for Sierra based on appearance. Horus Goddess drew her long and slender while Chalosan made her beefier. I always want the illustrator to draw her how they visualize her.

Great pic! Love the fight poster style. Perhaps add some frayed edges and/or a nail or two.
Never did get Green Legend much, though. So many pics of her on a ten count or being clobbered and she has a title belt?
Not familiar with those other characters, but it's worth a look. You don't see a lot of scalies anymore, it's like they're losing popularity, which is sad because of a lot of good ones out there. (Heck, most of 'em are)
Little bit tough to read the writing at the bottom.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy this piece, I had fun working on it. The frayed edges/nail is a great suggestion, I may have to try and see how that works. Did you mean the "Pay-per-view" texts or the "Copyright" texts? If it's the PPV texts then I think I agree with you. I'll try and edit them so people can read them better.

Green Legend has become very entertaining to work on for me now. I don't know the character personally so I can't really vouch for how good of a boxer she is; I'm not even sure if she actually has the title belt... I just threw it in there cause it looked cool.

The other characters are all originals that I made up on the spot, or what I like to call my "B-star" characters; ones that aren't famous enough to get more then a paragraph of description.

Bigevilogre In reply to firepixie [2008-09-06 05:32:18 +0000 UTC]

What gave me the frayed idea was looking up on DA for boxing and some old boxing posters on buildings, "Oh cool!" so now I'm checking Ebay for the real old time posters.

Green, I won't get into. I see lots of pics of her with the title belt and it seems to be one extreme to the other. Either she's completely layed out and out cold, or victorious. You'll never see a boxer carrying a title belt if they're knocked out so many times. My thoughts on Green both as far as the creator and the character go is very multifaceted, but I'm not a Green fan. In fact, my stance has made me quite unpopular.

I used to ask for "B-star" characters in the commissions I asked back iin the days when I was getting commissions. It always adds a bit of personal touch, and makes it more memorable as a moment for the person who bought the art. I also think it makes it more fun for the artist.

I believe there are a few professional sites that sell old boxing promo posters, of course they're not all worn out, but I'm sure a person could do that on their own if they wanted too.

I try not to think too much into what I get commissioned to draw anymore, at first I did, but now I only worry about if it'll make me feel uncomfortable on some stand point or bring in a lot of negative response. Aside from that I try to enjoy myself while being introduced to new characters and personas.

To be honest I try not to include personal "B-stars" in my commissions, it feels like they're paying me for my character ideas and I don't like that feeling too much. I only do it for nice people and when I feel I've screwed up. Nothing like characters people didn't pay for to fix things up.

Yeah, I'm a collector. I grew up with and around fighters, even dated a lady who aspired to be one. I have steamer trunks full of old gloves and gear and such, I donate equipment to small gyms and even fighters who can't afford things (I'm not rich, sometimes I just find something really cheap and know someone who can use them.)
I especially have a respect for the women.

Most of the time when I have B stars in my commissioned pics it's because of the same reason you did here, you have one character for a two character (or more) piece. For me it was the exact same thing, my fighter needs an opponent. They have rivals, naturally, but if it weren't for a flood I'd have pushing 400 pics, and if they were always against the same person it'd be pretty boring. What makes a fighter good is the diversity of their opponents, as they say.

Really? That's very interesting! My father was a boxer, both as a civilian and as a sailor in the Navy. Not professional, of course, just a hobby; he always said something along the lines of "Are you crazy? Those foo's 'll fuck you up!" Pardon my French. Yeah, he just couldn't take it to the point of getting his face disfigured for the sport, but anyway! He taught me most of the technical stuff I know, curiosity filled in the rest. I don't box, but I do enjoy watching matches on TV. I do admit that I enjoy male boxing more then female, but that doesn't mean I respect either of the genders any more or less.

Legend's only opponent is Killer Queen in this poster PPV event, the other two boxers are in the opening match from a featherweight class. I had a hard time squeezing in that little bit of information on the poster so I decided to leave it out; bad on me I suppose, but I did what I had to do to make everything work.

I enjoy drawing fighting pictures, but I lean more toward a fantasy type of fighting then a standard fight. I like the idea of showing how a punch feels visually in a picture so things look extremely exaggerated. I'm not very good at it yet though.

My grandfather was Golden Gloves, my father did some in highschool and in the military, My oldest sister had a very short career, only a couple years, as an amatuer. My mentor, the guy who kept me from turning into one mean motor scooter was a kickboxer and was doing mixed martial arts before there was even a UFC. My ex, and the only woman I had any real interest in did a lot of pro am stuff, amatuer, and started in toughwoman contests. In those days there wasn't hardly anyone in her weight class and we didn't have the resources to fully utilize that, even if we did promoters weren't going to pay to have a lady flown out to another state, then given a room. Tanya is 6' 3" and at the time hovered around 190 pounds of solid muscle. Not many opponent 15-20 years ago. She was a real health nut and major adrenaline junkie (One of those adrenaline quests forced her to retire, she tore her right arm nearly off.)

My character, based on my ex, had dozens. But only four "main" opponents. One evil wicken meniacle bitch, one best friend, one overly wealthy stuck up snob of a bitch, and an overconfident gang banger. Originally I had her drawn up as a boxing tigress as a gimick for her career. Colorado's sports commission botched it. They're horrible, worst in the country and maybe the world. When she retired I had her as a character. I wrote hundreds of thousands of pages of text, I spent enough money on commissions to buy the 2010 Camaro free and clear with enough leftover for custom paint. I literally caused myself harm, injuries and pain to make it all POP. Never did. No one wanted to read it, even my friends stopped reading it. So... after attempting suicide... I gave it all up.
That's why Green Legend grates at me so badly. She not only stands for, but completely embraces and sells a very disrespectful and devaluing image of the women in the sport. Even friends who admired and wanted to meet Tanya (My girl) are turning to the "Boxing? Is she naked? Yes? Cool! I'll fave it!"
I've been fighting the battle for probably around 15 years. I am the only one fighting that battle anymore. DA just wants to go whack off. Green is more than obliged to give them just that. While the real athletes out there say "Yeah, I'll fight for $100 a round. I'll drive there myself. I know a cheap hotel in the area."

Hmm, it sounds like you've gone through a lot over this matter. I appreciate that in a person. I hope you'll be able to find others who share your point of view and, to be honest, I'm pretty sure you won't find too many of them online. The internet has this strange, unusual way of cheapening anything with meaning. The only good side is that not to many people take the internet seriously in the "real world".

If I had control over things I wouldn't draw the ladies topless (getting punched in the breast hurts enough even with the protective padding not to mention breast cancer); they'd be in normal trunks with paw wraps and grips (they're furries, their feet are too weird for normal shoes XD). But, as it goes, the character doesn't belong to me and I have no right to add things without permission. I'm fine with that base line fact.

I like drawing colorful scenes. I enjoy creating pictures with a wide spectrum of emotions. I don't mind drawing tasteful nudity, I think the naked body is beautiful no matter how (im)perfect it looks. Once a commission complete I really don't have any control over what kind of impression it leaves on a viewer, not to mention the owner of the piece can take that impression a step further if they want. I can't make people think things, I can only hint to things I'm thinking.

Yeah, I can understand where you're coming from. That's why I commented on the pic, because it IS good work!
For me it's become a personal war, to hear Tanya's voice when I told her about how friends of ours who were the only thing close to a "fan" she had were faving pics of Green Legend and Laine and K.O. and so on. Tanya is strong, she doesn't show emotion she doesn't want to. I could hear her, though, "Is that what they wanted from me?"
It's a fight I can never win. The only peace I'll ever find is to leave the internet. I'm the only one fighting this war. I just can't do it. So it's a long life of suffering i'll have to live. Stay, and suffer seeing pics after pics after pics. Always dying a little inside at what I see.
Or I leave and hate myself for turning my back and leaving. The only way I'll be able to rest is if things change, and we know that will never happen.
(Holy crap! Anne Wolfe has invented something cool. She hung a heavybag and hung it from the front of her truck and she drives it while her fighters hit it, learning to hit on their heels)

Anyway, thanks for the discussion and being understanding. Your work really IS good. I had all my pics taken down, not sure who all decided to keap them up aside from Leannebluefire. She's one of the reasons I fight. She's 16 and wants to fight in the golden gloves. This foxy boxing stuff... "Is this the future she has to look forward to?"

Hmm, well, if you don't mind a suggestion you may want to try shifting your energy from the constant distaste you feel online to something positive off-line if you haven't already. I have this feeling that you could better educate others in real life rather then online, you can still share your view points, but aside from that I don't think there's a whole lot more you can do. That's the way the internet is now, a whole lot of talking, but not too many really listening.

You're very welcome for the discussion, I enjoyed myself. I hope you'll pop in every once in awhile on my other works.

Thanks for the advice, I've been trying to divert energy into working on the cars, and moving to Denver. Still, really the only way for me to forget about the sort of thing like that is to leave. I TRIED getting banned (Always thought just leaving was no fun, getting thrown out is a hoot) but in order to do that I'd have to hurt folks, and I just can't. I could EASILY torment a few people who many think would have it coming but... it isn't my job to punish.
Gyms aren't interested in a lot of what I'm trying to get across. Their take is mostly "We'll show them what's right by being the best and most entertaining." and promoters take the same stance. There really isn't any resources at my disposal.
You're right about online. Online you can't look someone in the eye and see how they react. People into the foxy boxing gig think it's all in good fun, but if they could see and hear...
well let's face it. If Green's owner was to talk into a gym dressed as her character, one of two things would happen. She'd get the crap beat out of her and thrown into the street, or she'd be removed in handcuffs. Impact Boxing here, she'd be led away in handcuffs. House of Pain in Denver... beat up and thrown into the alley. (Terri Cruz is no lady to insult. Nice gal, but MEAN temper from what I'm told.)

Hee hee, the only thing Killer Queen is missing is a big spikey shell, right? I'm glad you like the other two characters as well. I was worried that since they have smaller pictures they wouldn't be noticed.
