A expression of true horror crossed you and Link’s face as you watched the ocarina shatter into tiny pieces. A loud giggle erupted from the Skull Kid as he danced around in circles.

“Heeheehee! I won! You lost!” He seemed frantic now, his face twisted into a sick wide smile as his yellow eyes glowed brighter than ever.

“The moon will fall! It will go crash! It will destroy and destruct! Ahahaha, sounds like so much fun!” He screamed in joy as you and Link slowly shook your heads.

“This can’t be happening.”

Link’s voice sounded muffled through your ears, and you felt something deep and black lurking within your body. It took you some time to realize what it really was.

It was fear.

Your eyes drifted to the golden fairy lying motionlessly on the ground. Silver liquid was dripping from her orb-like body, her blinding light slowly fading into a dull glow. You were quick to run to her and grab her in your open palms, but you were too late.

The fairy was now cold and quiet. Unlike the warm and chatty being she used to be.

“Tatl..” You whispered, which seemed to entertain the Skull Kid even more because he started to laugh again.

“Hahaha! You see you lost, eh? Now I’ll let the moon crash into the world! It’s gonna shatter! And so much fun!” He repeated with enthusiasm, his voice laced with craze.

“Goodbye, for now…” He grinned before disappearing into the Moon that stood atop the tower.

A moment of silence went by before you and Link, and you both knew that this was the end. No way out.

But you wanted to try anyways.

“Link… We can tell the people to get out from town! Then they might be-“

“No use. The Moon will destroy the land beyond the town.”

“Maybe we’ll… Maybe…”

“You and I both know that there’s no way out.” Link’s face was drained of any emotions, and it was as if he was yet to realize what was really happening. But when his face twitched and his thin lips started to tremble, you knew he was as scared as you.

“I guess this is how it’s supposed to be.” Link whispered quietly, and you shook your head once, twice, and three times.

“But…”

“Please. Stop.” He said with a tone that you never knew he could speak with.

“…” You felt anger. Fear. Pain. Dread. It felt like you were being ripped slowly apart.

Without another word, you slowly approached Link, closing the distance between you two. When you stopped walking, you were about arm length away.

“Link?” You carefully asked. He then looked up to you, his cerulean eyes clear but wavering from tears.

“I’m sorry. If I was a bit more careful…” Link said, but you cut him off.

“No. Neither of us have a fault. If someone shall be blamed, it will be destiny. For putting us through this and letting the moon fall.” You forced a small smile.

“Besides… I’m fine if I can be with you.” You then hesitantly grabbed Link’s hands in your trembling ones. Then you kissed his cheek.

“I expected this to be a bit more..Romantic, but oh well. I guess this is my last chance, huh?" You let out a dry laugh before continuing. "I love you Link. You're always so handsome, sweet, heroic, and perfect. I love you. I don't mind if you don't return my fee-"

“No.” He cut you off. “I love you so much. I love you. I love you. You’re beautiful, kind, stronger than anyone that I’ve met. You tell me I’m courageous, but I’ve never really had the courage to tell you these three words. Maybe I’m a coward in love. I’m sorry for that.” His face was now fully adorned with a handsome smile. You felt your own face being pulled into a smile, too.

You looked up to find the moon slowly descending. It seemed like it was a few minutes away from hitting the top tower and bringing you doom.

But your face was pulled into someone else’s. You met in a silent but sweet kiss, a tear escaping from your eyes and slowly making its way down your face. For that moment, you were able to forget everything else.

Slightly pulling away, you buried your head in Link’s chest, wrapping an arm around him. He hugged back, resting his chin on your head.

Then you closed your eyes.

Ba-dum. Ba-dum.

His steady heartbeat calmed you, slowly lulling you into a peaceful trance. Every painful emotion was dulled, and you could feel yourself smile again.

Out of the distance, you could hear a crash and people screaming. But you ignored that.

“Y/N?” His voice sounded peaceful and happy.

“Yeah?”

“I love you. I really do.”

“Me too.”

“…Promise to come find me… in my next life?” You whispered, your voice barely audible. But Link seemed to hear because he nodded against your head.

“Yeah. Promise.” He said.

Then there was another crash. And then gravity was lost.

Backness engulfed your form in a matter of seconds, but you never let go of Link as your soul slowly passed on to your next life.

“Whenever there is a meeting, a parting shall follow. But that parting needs not last forever. Whether a parting is forever or merely for a short while….It’s up to you.”

This isn't our last time together, Link. It's just our parting. For now.
