Description
Personally, I blame and for putting my mind in an Avatar mood lately. I wanted to get in on the muscle action. Whipped these up and put some (relatively) quick colors on em. I kept the lineart for the Hulkatara there too because there are some details that are difficult to see with the colors on that I really liked.I know I said I'd avoid huge muscle, but Hulkatara seemed too silly and fun to pass up. I think I still prefer the far right Toph for overall size.

Nice. Don't see to many muscular Katara fan art. Would love to see more Hulktara. I like her stance. I think Hulktara really represents Katara's power. Katara is after all the second strongest bender after Aang in the Avatar world.(she saved Aang and Zuko's lives and single handly defeated comet powered bat shit crazy Azula.) It only makes sense that the two most powerful benders on the planet would get married.
As for Toph I can always see her as a ripped badass bodybuilder as an adult. In the Great Divide episode that one chick who chief was muscular. That shows that muscular older Toph could be canon. Hell they even hinted at it in Ember Island Players. Nice work on both man. Keep of up the good work.

I think the sheer amount of Earth Bending Masters that are ripped almost guarantees Toph being somewhat muscular years down the line, maybe not like the yellow outfit here, probably closer to the red outfit or the Mantis pose piece I did.
And thanks, I'd like to keep doing Avatar stuff.

Didn't expect to be of inspiration to an actually-skilled artist As good as these muscley Tophs are, I personally prefer Toph being of the short and stocky variety of build; it goes well with the aspect of her being a badass little shrimp :3

Well, you've got an interesting style that is both slightly creepy and silly, and then you blend that with Avatar scenarios and muscley stuff. I just dig it overall (and thanks for the compliment).
I think its fun showing a variety of styles for Toph. Naturally, I'm going to be predisposed to a taller and leaner build (well, maybe not always), but a shorter and stocky build makes plenty of sense, and you draw it quite well.

You draw a truly awesome musclely-Toph. Hulktara is, as you said, too fun-silly to ignore. (Fun-silly is totally a thing. It's one of the elements of the universe as recorded by Sir Terry Pratchett, right after Surprise. Okay, he missed fun-silly, but even incarnations of pure AWESOME miss SOME things.)
It's quite natural to draw Toph being big and muscled, and it makes sense; Earth Kingdom folks tend to be a lot bigger than the other nations. (with Air Nomads, if Aang is any indication, as the shortest overall, Fire Nation in-between, and the Water Tribes as averaging out but being more husky.) Personally, I do like the far right Toph as sheer muscle volume goes, though I think the largest concentration of her muscles would be in her legs, as Earthbending has a big emphasis on stance and lower body strength.
Middle Toph is really good looking, espicially since she's a lot bigger overall. If you know what I mean. (And of course you do! I think.)
In conclusion? Toph, plus muscles, equals awesome.
(Also, I feel that she ought to wind up being the tallest of Team Avatar by quite a large margin. What's your take on that?)

You mean that she has huge ... tracts of land?
Also, is that last bit a veiled request for gts?

Yep. Huge...tracts of land. The Earth Kingdom has loads of those. (Because of all the farmland. Alternatively, look at Jin.)
Well, it WOULD be awesome to see GTS Toph! (I actually meant that I just think it'd make sense for her to wind up being the tallest as an adult; one notable fanfic called The Full Metal Bitch placed her at 6'5, which seems about right.)

Okay, Toph's stuff I can find attractive, Katara on the other hand... Holy wtf.
Really nice btw.
Only error I can spy is no one has veins in there ends, and red Toph and Katara's rib cages could be a little (~half an inch) higher, but that's just me.
Other than that, superb workings of the mind and hand (I would think).

Like I've said twice already, Katara is just me being silly and playing with form and silhouette.
Veins in there ends?

Ah, in that case, we actually do have veins in our hands, how else would the blood get to our fingers?
Besides, what I'm drawing there are actually the protrusions of bone and sinew from the hand and knuckles, which are more prevalent on bodies with less fat.

Urg, looking back at my spelling (it's shit).
I am saying that I would expect yellow Toph, with her blood needing muscular arms, when rested, to have more pooling of blood into the back of her hands causing prominent veins. I am saying this because from my own knowledge of myself (I have little/no fat) that there are veins in the back of the hands even when rested, when clenched however the skin is stretched and vein's are hidden.

Ok, I see more of what you're saying.
But like I said, the lines on their hands aren't veins, they're the bone and sinew in the hand, with the shadows they cast like this. [link]

I know that's what they are, I am saying it needs veins too when relaxed.
Here, too a pic of my hand just to show you: [link]

Epic. There is simply not enough Avatar muscle art out there.

You know, I thought that too at one point, but there is a surprising amount of it. Most of it, understandably, is of older Toph. I think its some sort of rule that all excellent Earthbenders need to be ripped.

StretchDude In reply to First-Second [2011-05-16 03:03:05 +0000 UTC]
It's an excellent rule at that.
And yeah, there is a fair bit of Toph muscle out there, though not plentiful enough (or huge enough) to properly quench my thirst for it.

LOVELY! Tone down Katara some, leave Toph the same, and that's how they would look later on after some seasoned bending. You got it down good. When the new Avatar series comes out, do a muscled version of Korra soon.

Oh yeah, I know that Katara is way too big, I wanted to just play around with thick outer line work and silhouette, and pushing things to Ed McGuiness like chunkiness and roundness seemed like a fun way to do that. Plus, the thought of an oversized Katara angry at something just seemed fun.
I'm looking forward to the Korra series, I haven't looked into it very much beyond knowing it exists though.

Well, I've been writing on a new season that takes up where Book 3 leaves off. Still got bugs to work out though. To me, Hulkatara is cuddly like a big bear, with hard muscles. The result of a full moon, no doubt. I ain't complaining, you got skills.

Given the picture they just released of Korra, you might not need to.
Also, Hulkatara is hilarious. Yellow Toph has a slightly phlegmatic expression but the design and shading are excellent!

I know, I giggled when I seen it, and she looks very cute when she's mad. Aang better watch out if he so mistakingly does that.
Toph in an older stage is absolutely smitting. Makes me think...damn...
