Description In the country of Luberria, you could live on your own when you are 15 years old. However, you can be ‘owned’ by an adult over the age of 20. It is kinda like adopting in a way. Most people who do the owning system usually use the people they own as slaves. They stop being owned by them when they turn 20, unless they have a mental or physical disability. They can even disown the person that they own. Haruhi and her friends are not owned by anyone...yet.
Haruhi was off work. She worked at a cafe called “Cat’s Meow Cafe”. She wiped up the tables, cleaned the floors and dishes, etc. She was the maid of the place. She decided to go see her good friend Scott Phoenix. Scott Phoenix had a Scottish accent, being from Scotland. He had dark brown hair that came to his shoulders. He had long bangs that reached around his chin. He had such a dark violet colour for his eyes. He was a year older than Haruhi. Haruhi walked through the woods. There was a large building coming up ahead. She smiled at the sight of it. She reached the door and opened it as she heard talking, footsteps, and, laughter. There were two sets of stairs. One went up, the other down. The one that led upstairs was called “Uptown” and the one down, well “Downtown”. Almost no one in Saint Viktoria knew about this building’s secret. There were rumours saying that it was possessed by multiple demons. The people that knew about this building’s magic were the people who were from either of those towns. Haruhi’s parents were from Uptown. Haruhi raced up the stairs to Uptown. When she got up there, she saw the beautiful stars and moon, the lights everywhere, and laughter, talking, all the good stuff. She walked towards the bar that Scott’s family owned, which was called “The Devil’s Pit”. It was his parent’s friends that now ran the place since Scott’s parents were brutally murdered when he was 6 years old. The family’s last name was Poe. There was Norman and Ellen Poe, which usually went by Mr & Mrs. Poe. They had three children. There was their eldest, Maria, who was 18 years old and there was the twins, Len and Den, who were Haruhi’s age. Len and Den went to Haruhi’s school just to see how she is doing. They were even in her Science and English class. She opened the door, which when she entered, she was welcomed happily. “Oh my, hello Haruhi! It’s so nice to see you! How are you?” Maria happily greeted. She had a tray of glasses and wore a red dress with a white apron that had all sorts of stains on it. She also wore black tights underneath with black high heels. “I’m good, yourself?” asked Haruhi. Her mood went from bad to good just by being here. The Poe’s were like another family to her.  Maria placed the tray down “Oh I’m excellent dear. I’ll call down Scott if you like.”
“Yes please.” Haruhi took a seat at the bar.
“Scotty! Get down here! Someone’s here for ya!” Maria yelled up the stairs.
“Okay I’m coming.” He yelled back “Gimme a sec.” Two minutes later, he quickly walked down the stairs. He wore a dark green sweater that had light green stripes going across it. He wore dark brown cargo pants and black socks. Haruhi noticed three new piercings on each ear. “Oh my dear Lord! Haruhi! It’s been four months since we last saw you! How have you been doing?” Scott exclaimed.
“I’m great.” Haruhi smiled. Scott hugged her and she hugged him back. “Good to hear dear.” Maria hummed a happy tune. “Where’s everyone else?” asked Haruhi.
“Oh poor Len got a huge shard of glass in his arm so they went to the doctor to get it out.” answered Maria.
“Did Len get into a fight with Chris and them?”
“Afraid so.” Scott looked down.
“God damn it! I thought I told them to stop these fights!” Haruhi yelled.
“Haru, we’re sorry!” cried Maria. Haruhi sighed in frustration. “It’s okay I guess. But I’ll talk to them tomorrow.”
“Haru-sugar, don’t-” Scott cried.
“I will. And you can’t stop me. They go to my school.” Haruhi looked away from both Maria and Scott. “Guys, I-I’m sorry I snapped.” Haruhi had tears coming from her eyes. Scott hugged her ‘Hey, hey, don’t cry, its okay-they’ll be okay Haru-boo, don’t worry so much. Here, I’ll take you up to bed. You can stay here tonight.”
“Thanks Scott.”
“No problem sweetie.”
                                                   ***
It was midnight. All was quiet in the Poe house. Scott and Haruhi shared the same room, the twins were next door. Maria, Mr and Mrs Poe were across from them. Scott had awakened from a nightmare. He looked at Haruhi, which had passed out beside him from crying so much. Then he looked out the window and examined the moon where a few small clouds passed by it. The stars seemed to somewhat disappear. He tried lying back down, but couldn’t seem to find sleep to take over him. He sighed and looked at Haruhi. She looks like an angel at peace when she’s asleep he thought to himself. He heard at somewhat loud bang like noise outside. He perked his head up to look outside. It’s nothing. Why am I so paranoid? He asked himself. He looked at Haruhi again, then his door. He waited until he heard a loud crash downstairs. He started shaking Haruhi “Haruhi! Haruhi! Wake up darling! We’re being attacked! We need to leave now!”  Haruhi woke up, struggling with the sudden news. Scott opened his window, which has a balcony. He looked down and saw that he would go down first then Haruhi would go and he could catch her. He whispered to her “I’ll go first then you. I’ll catch you at the bottom.”
“Scott, please-”
“Don’t worry dear, I won’t hurt myself.” Scott jumped down and looked up.
“Ready when you are.”
“Scott, I’m afraid.” Haruhi cried.
“Dear, we can’t waste any time! I will catch you.” Scott ensured her. She took a deep breath and jumped off the balcony. Moments later, she felt a warm embrace of Scott’s arms. Her feet were gently placed on the ground. “Let’s go to your house, okay?”
“Scott, you know that Mr. Poe would be furious! He doesn’t want you leaving this town for some strange reason.”
“Well screw him for once. He may be my step-father but we need to think about our safety right now.” Scott tugged on her through the gate to Saint Viktoria. They ran through the gate and down the wooden stairs. When they got to the bottom, Scott looked behind him. “Scott, I just realized something-I don’t have my keys!” Haruhi panicked. Scott was wearing a devilish smile on his face. He reached into his pocket and a jingling sound came from it. He pulled the object out. It was Haruhi’s keys. “I’ve always wondered how you managed to do that.”
“A magician has his secrets” Scott smirked. Haruhi opened the door. She pulled Scott with her outside. Scott looked behind him to see an old looking house. “Holy crap that’s amazing.”
“I know.” Haruhi giggled. “Let’s go to my house then.”
