Description
So here are a few things I learned about layer modes:

1.) Screen - desaturates and lightens, while also adding a tinge of the applied color
2.) Overlay - quite an odd one... behavior is heavily reliant on saturation and value (will lighten if color is lighter, will darken if color applied is darker; amount of color is dependent on the saturation of the color applied).

2.) Multiply - desaturates (ish) and darkens, while also adding a tinge of the applied color
4.) Shade - saturates and darkens, adds a lot of the color applied.
