I find sex to be a rather questionable topic. Why? First off, sex is technically a natural response. We, as humans, are just one of countless species of organisms that could only use sexual conduct as a means to reproduce. However, in humans, we happen to have varying points of view about sex, even strange ones. First off, let's get to the basics.

Sex is, according to Webster Illustrated Contemporary Dictionary: Encyclopedic Edition, "the activity or phenomenon of life concerned with sexual desire or reproduction." Basically, the reproduction aspect is the interaction between the female and male reproductive systems. There are significant differences between the male reproductive system and the female reproductive system, and it's simple. A male human (or mammal) has a penis while a female human has a three-part tunnel in their cervical region. These three parts are the vagina (vulva), the cervix, and the uterus. The ovum, or egg cell, is carried in the uterus after being carried from an ovary through a Fallopian tube. When provoked, sperm would make a journey through both the penis and the vagina, starting with the testes. There, sperm would travel through the epididymis, up the vas deferens, and out the ejaculatory duct. There, sperm would exit the penis in the form of a whitish goo (semen).

What is it about this process that's so questionable? Well, let's start small. The thing that a couple would typically do in sexual conduct is to hide it. I'm not sure why, but a couple of the links to this stealthy method could be either male aggression or children. I'm not sure if religious texts consider sex to be a sin or not. In organisms that have male and female counterparts, males usually happen to be the ones fighting, whether it involves territory or females. Also, children happen to be active learners, and may end up taking sexual activity into their minds through observational learning. Of course hormones such as testosterone and estrogen would trigger sexual desire. The third thing I could think of is privacy. Privacy is an environmental thing rather than a biological thing, but biologically, mammals could get territorial. Correct me on this paragraph if I'm wrong. I sometimes write incorrect pieces of information.

Then there are these strange concepts associated with sex. I'm talking about sexual advertisements (ever seen that Noxema commercial?), sexual media (I would use pornography outside of this set of parentheses, but that word is informal, plus it's just too specific), stereotype-based yaoi and yuri (I may be a yuri supporter, but I understand how yuri supports), fetishes, fetish-based add-ons and, yes, even rape (which is dangerous and illegal).

I'm sure the majority of you know about sexual media, so I'll skip that.

Yaoi and yuri is basically the depiction of same-sex relationship, especially with fictional characters. Yaoi and yuri may end up stereotyping homosexuality rather than promoting it in some cases. Why? Sometimes, yaoi and yuri will get to sexual levels that may flanderize same-sex relationships (pornography holds many stereotypes). If you need to support same-sex relationships, I recommend getting a membership for one or more LBGT support organizations. I don't know any hotlines for such a touchy subject.

Fetishes are indeed strange, but like LBGT qualities, these are not necessarily changeable. Fetishes, more formally known as paraphilias, is the sexual desire targeted not towards people, but rather objects and ideas. Bondage is a popular fetish (how many of you would say "bondage" if I asked, "What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say the word fetish?", although attraction towards feet is more common. Because of fetishes, sex is split into to two categories: vanilla sex and something I'd like to call "recipe sex". Why "recipe?" Basically, fetishes add "ingredients" to sexual conduct, mostly focused on a certain item or quality. If you ever had a ball gag in your mouth or had your feet licked by someone, or had any other "ingredient" put onto you, you might know what I'm talking about.

Lastly, rape is a very touchy topic. Rape, in simpler terms, is unwarranted sexual contact. Not only is it illegal, but it is an external cause of depression and PTSD. One out of three rape victims have thought about suicide (www.musc.edu/vawprevention/res… ). Those are distressing odds. I recommend contacting these hotlines if you have been assaulted sexually.:

National Sexual Assault Hotline: 1-800-656-HOPE
Suicide Hotline: 1-800-SUICIDE

What is it about human sexuality, anyway? I doubt I'll ever know.

NOTE: This description is a first draft. I will need feedback to fix/improve on this thing.
