Description

I AM REALLY BEHIND ON THESE!

1. Okay, I was really happy with the initial sketch on this one, although I noticed later that the chest looked a little tiny so expanded it. With the tail, I remember seeing some other works recently where a heavy, thick tail would hit the floor which would cause a slight wrinkled effect obviously, where the skin folds on itself. It looked amazing and helped realism and I had to do it with this piece.

2. I ended up changing the horizon line to diagonal as I was worried the piece would be too boring. Looking back, I think this was unnecessary in this piece as there is no real action taking place! But it's a total habit now.

3. Brightened the background sunset yellows and found a really cool dotty brush which helped me with a scale base for the dragon. Clouds painted in. I just go mad with these!

4. Detailing the sea, added in the mountain, strong lighting onto the dragon.

5. Played with the sunset colours here - I added in a line gradient of a yellow and switched the layer to overlay. This really helped add a warm glow to the whole piece. Main detailing to the dragon.

6. Final stage is a lovely colour tweak, I really cranked up the vibrancy. Rock detailing, making the show clear. Final highlighting on the dragon, bringing in some extra golden tones. The birds were a fun effect to bring the viewer's eye into the piece.

I still don't really understand how you get from great sketches with scribbly lines and play-about ideas; then its like you switch a light on with those wonderful lighting effects that Fleeting does so well, but suddenly- click and its a stunning finished picture full of, well, everything really.

Yes, I like the tail; I see what you are talking about and though I wouldn't have seperately noticed the folds, they are right, as you say.  Not quite sure what you mean by "bringing the viewers eye in" but the birds are a great idea anyway; I can almost hear them.  When I do hear them, I will write...

Ah, just gotta keep building up the sketch, bit by bit, and never get afraid to get stuck in and paint!

So whenever anyone looks at a piece of art, your eyes will naturally go to certain parts of the image first, depending on how it's painted. A lot of composition techniques are to make sure your eyes keep reverting back to the canvas, so try and avoid sharp lines then head straight off, if there's no curving boundaries to bring you back in.

It's hard to follow it to a t though. One of my best examples of this would be in this piece as I really tried to make sure this worked, using circular composition techniques

Great!  Interesting seeing some of the process and reading some insight into your thoughts as you go.  Boxes all ticked on the final result, love the birds

I will provide the commentary and the story will come from the popular video game Dragon Age
If interested be sure to message me on DA or at aliceandtherabbit00@Gmail.com
The video will be put on youtube and I need someone to animate it for me. THIS IS NOT A SCAM I PINKEY PINKEY PROMISE
I understand this is rather odd, but if you need more proof that I am a real person and not some kind of commie scam artist here is a link to my current youtube channel.

My channel at the time is small, but it is expected to grow as I begin to cover more popular topics.

I may be able to offer a small amount of pay on top of all profits made by the video going to you. You will also get recognition at the end and beginning of the video as the animator.

Look forward to hearing from you! )

This is truly amazing!  I actually like the diagonal horizon here, makes the world around look bigger.

Ah thank you!

Oooh you think so? It's such a hard one! I tend to use diagonal horizons constantly, so worry that I overuse that technique, haha.

Well, if it works then why not use it?  The step by step concept was cool as well, and the final product was amazing as I have said.  But yeah, with the island in the background and the birds, it just fits together very nicely, so well done!
