The Pipework Tunnels

Polly and Matthew were at least 15 miles into the Pipework Tunnels, it stank worse than hell. "I didnt realize the Tunnels were this immense." Polly said.
"yea," Matthew agreed, "but we souldnt be much futher now."
"In that case lets run."

About ten mintues into thier run, Polly stumbled and dropped the flashlight. It landed on the bulb. Matthew was just catching up to her when he tripped and fell on her.
"oof," Polly grumbled "get off of me!"
"Sorry," Matthew mumbled "I tripped on something."
"Hey!" Polly said in a slightly excited voice, "I think I tripped on the same thing!"
She bent down and felt the floor with her fumbling fingers, she was never as delicate as her older sister. One of the many reasons she was doing this. She found it, felt the edges and found out it was diamond shaped, cold, and thin like metal. A sign. She let Mattew feel it.
"I wonder what it says..." he thought aloud.
Polly squealed, she cut her hand on the thin, sharp edges of the sign. It was bleeding, a lot.
Suddenly they heard a booming sound. Then a small thud. Then another.... and another. It was growing, faster, louder, closer. Now they heard a high pitched hissing sound.
"wierd," Polly thought "it sounds like a water pipe yet... not a water pipe?"
If there was light, she would have noiticed that Matthew's face was a great deal paler. While Polly had many reason for doing this, Matthew only had one. He knew the truth about the Great Ephifany. Everything he had known was a lie.
"Polly.... we need to run back. NOW!"

Officer Kevin Frafter was on the lookout for two kids, Polly Keager and Matthew Rogers. He had been at this for at least three hours now, which wasnt a head start at all. Beep beep beep beep beep beep his heat radar was going off, three objects. He looked out his car's window. Officer Frafter cursed, the heat signatures were coming from the Pipework Tunnels. He pushed some buttons and slowly started his descent. He heard a faint scream. He made the hover car fall faster. He was just about to land when he heard another scream. He looked back on the moniter. Two of the three signatures disspeared, the thired one was slowly getting out of range of radar. He grabbed a flashlight and jumped out of the car. Frafter shone the light on the entance of the Tunnels.
Nothing there except a puddle which shined black in the moonlight.
