Other art classes have been doing this project for years-- they paint an image with black and white tempura paint, then cover the whole thing in India ink. When it's dry they run it under the faucet until the tempura washes off.

White stays white, black turns grey and the India ink stays black.

I only had finger paints leftover from the early nineties, not tempura. Scribbled on the purple.
