Description
This is the front page of the qualification record for my father, Donald Eugene Knight. The six months as a rifleman would be his time in the European Theater from November 1944 through the surrender on May 8, 1945. This record indicates combat within France, which would be during the winter before the Seventh Army entered Germany. Note the listing of Germany and Austria as separate nations, though they were the Großdeutsches Reich since 1938 and the United States had accepted the Anschluß as it occurred during peacetime. They did not get to Austria until late April 1945. Therefore we can conclude he recovered enough from his hepatitis to be returned to the front line.I redacted the address of the house sold many years ago to preserve the peace of its current residents.
