I know exactly how you feel, try being in an amusement park taking photos of carnival rides at night in long exposure and you don't have any kids with you. People think your very strange.

Yeah that’s what sucks about photography theses days, you can’t do much with out being see as a pervert or terrorist. When I was in the states, back in July with my dad we both where looked at funny by this police officer as I was setting up my tripod and camera to take photos of this bank, very nice architecture, but u run that risk of being attack by police for being a “Terror Threat” as they call us photographers.
