Description This is my best attempt at a "realistic" roster for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. This was made with only the Villager, Megaman and Wii Fit Trainer (who is represented by the "?", as she had no icon in the Roster Maker, unfortunately) being confirmed so far - any further additions to the roster would obviously make this version obsolete.

Explanations:
1. Toad (Mario) - During Brawl's production, it was between Toad, Waluigi, Bowser Jr. and Paper Mario. Since then, Waluigi and Jr. have been relegated mainly to spin-offs and minor appearances. Paper Mario did have another game, however, Toad has since been a main playable character in 2 mainstream Mario games, along with his appearance in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Ultimately, I chose Toad, although Paper Mario still has a strong chance of appearing.

2. Dixie Kong (Donkey Kong) - Like Toad, it was between her and King K. Rool. Honestly, I believed King K. Rool was more deserving, until I saw that Nintendo had again abandoned him in the newest DK Country game. If he appears as the fourth playable character, then he'd definitely take priority over Dixie, but for now, she's ahead in my mind.

3. Takamaru (Nazo no Murasamejou) - He's essentially confirmed. Sakurai himself said he'd include Takamaru if he appeared in another game. Cue Nintendo Land and Nazo no Murasamejou's random appearance. If that wasn't a hint, I don't know what else is.

4. Isaac (Golden Sun) - I was earnestly surprised that Isaac wasn't a playable character in Brawl. I've played Golden Sun (albeit not completely), and I feel that he would fit right into the Smash universe. Technically, either he (child or adult) or his son, Matthew, could appear, but I feel that Isaac is the "mascot" of the series, having appeared in every game.

5. Ridley (Metroid) - Oh gosh, here we go. BEFORE ANYONE ASKS - I do not play Metroid. I do not like Metroid. Ridley is merely here as a placeholder. Yes, I do believe Metroid deserves a new representative at this point. Who it should be, however, is beyond me. Metroid seems to be a series that suffers from a multitude of characters with very few essential recurring characters to represent it.

6. Palutena (Kid Icarus) - With Kid Icarus: Uprising being a success and Sakurai playing favorites, another KI character is likely. It was between her and Medusa, but ultimately, Palutena won.

7. Villager (Animal Crossing) - CONFIRMED. And no, I'm not a believer in the whole "Tom Nook is a secret character" thing. I LOVE Animal Crossing, but I don't think him seeing a letter means anything.

8. Little Mac (Punch-Out!) - Pretty obvious, if you ask me. He was a phenomenal Assist Trophy, fits right in and his game was a success on the Wii. Plus, his stage was shown in the trailer AND he's a part of the surprisingly believable rumor, along with Pac-Man and Mii.

9. Mewtwo (Pokemon) - Personally, I never liked Lucario. I never felt that he held the same relevance and importance that Mewtwo did. With Mewtwo's new form being announced for Generation V and no other real "mascot" of the series that could be a viable option, I definitely feel like Mewtwo could return. Also, his appearance in the Forbidden Seven lends some credibility in believing that he was supposed to be in Brawl anyways.

10. Shulk (Xenoblade) - Xenoblade was tremendously popular on the Wii and a unique addition to it. It was so successful that at the last E3, Nintendo announced a new game being developed by Monolith. If Shulk is in it, there is no doubt in my mind that he will make some sort of appearance in Smash. If he didn't make the cut, I could see Sakurai adding Saki Amamiya in his place.

11. Robin (Fire Emblem: Awakening) - My Fire Emblem choices are very debatable. Mainly because I excluded Chrom. Personally, I felt that Chrom did very little in the actual plot of Awakening when compared to Robin. Plus, Robin could combine swordplay and magic, as opposed to just swordplay (Chrom uses Marth's exact sword anyways).

12. Anna (Fire Emblem) - Although this would use her Awakening appearance, it would not necessarily make her an Awakening representative. Anna is one of, if not the only, recurring character throughout the entire Fire Emblem series. Now that she has her own class that is completely distinct from Marth, I believe she could make a good candidate and representative of the series as a whole, rather than just one game. The ultimate decision lies in whether or not FE deserves another rep or not.

13. Pac-Man (Pac-Man) - Ugh. I am not in favor of this. But, surprisingly, I completely believe the rumor about he, Little Mac and Mii. Besides, with Namco working on the game as well, this wouldn't surprise me at all. There go my hopes and dreams for Lloyd Irving T.T

14. Mii (Wii) - See Pac-Man.

Shulk, Pac-Man, Palutena, Robin, Mewtwo(He's a DLC XD), Rockman, Little Mac, and Villager all came true. It's amazing how so many actually did happen. XD

It pisses me off to no end whenever I see fan rosters that remove Ike because "Roy was removed in Brawl" and that "he'll be replaced by someone else", presumably an Awakening character. It just doesn't make sense to say there's a pattern if it only happened once. And it wasn't even planned to begin with, as Roy was meant to appear along with Ike in Brawl, just like how Mewtwo and Lucario were meant coexist. Sadly, due to time constrains, he was removed. And even then, Ike is by no mean a replacement of Roy, as they share little to no similarities bar their neutral B (the same happens with Mewtwo and Lucario). So all that chatter about Ike going to gone basically lacks trustworthy evidence. I mean, if something goes awfully wrong at Nintendo, then he could be in danger, but as of now, nothing is known.

Sorry for that rant. I really, REALLY needed to get out of my system. So yeah, neat roster aside from Robin and Anna.

I actually totally see your point of view, no worries. I am a major Fire Embem fan, and personally, I just didn't like Ike in Brawl, at all. I love Ike in Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, but I didn't even feel like I was really playing as Ike in Brawl, just someone that looked like him. I don't really know how to explain it. That's why I always remove Ike in my rosters, not because of the whole pattern thing. Honestly, at this point, Sakurai is just insane and I'm pretty sure his "patterns" have all been completely thrown out the window lol so I never know how to predict anything.

Well, when in doubt, play it safe, no?

I'm not a big fan of Ike in Brawl either, he's just too sluggish and heavy. I assumed (back when Brawl was released) that Ike would play just like Roy, who is a character I played all the time in Melee. But I discovered the differences very quickly. Still, I know plenty of people who liked him in Brawl, so I support his return anyway, as long as they make him less of a tank.

And, well, it's Sakurai who we're talking about. Only God knows what he's plotting.

Also i wanna say that Ike and marth are the only characters to be a main lord in more than one game roy was removed cause he just isn't important to the series and was just a clone of marth unlike Ike

Well, given how he has some incomplete data in the game like Mewtwo, it'd seem he was meant to appear, but was cut due to, again, time constrains. Lack of importance to the franchise (maybe except the fact that both he and Marth technically lead the Fire Emblem franchise to be released world-wide) compared to the other lords may be a reason to why he wasn't prioritized as much as them during development, though. Still, even if he was a clone he could have gotten a moveset revamp just like how both Falco and Ganondorf did.

Though the discussion was about the fallacious statement that "Roy was cut specifically to include Ike", which made people mistakenly believe that Ike WILL, not MIGHT, be cut in favor of some flashy new character from Awakening.

That's true! I doubt Sakurai honestly would include him as a Final Smash, but I could see him as an Assist Trophy or a Trophy, for sure! I would just prefer him to be playable...but it's pretty unlikely, unfortunately

When the game comes out on 3Ds, I will fight with Chrom(if he is in the game) against Marth in the Arena Ferox zone(3Ds exclusive). Well, at least, we still have the original fire emblem awakening and I still need to get all the support conversations! 8D

I'm thinking that they are going to replace Ike with Chrom (since he is the main Lord of the game) and maybe have Lucina as a costume-clone of Marth.

If they want to add a new Metroid character without digging into the Prime series, they'll add Anthony Higgs from Other M, or Adam Malkovich's appearance from that game. Personally, I think Higgs deserves it more. He's one of the few really great things that came out of that game.

follyoftheforbidden In reply to WatcherCCG [2013-06-18 22:14:25 +0000 UTC]

I've heard those two suggested a lot but they're only characters from one game, right? That's my problem with the Metroid representatives - it seems like they're mostly a collection of oneshot characters with the only recurring characters really being Samus (obviously lol), Ridley and Mother Brain. Then again, I'm extremely uninformed about Metroid so that's just general observation. I honestly have no problem with anyone Sakurai chose to represent Metroid

WatcherCCG In reply to follyoftheforbidden [2013-06-18 22:30:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, Higgs was a very pivotal character in Other M. He happens to be Samus's best friend in the Federation military and basically saved her life twice over the course of the game.

Hmm, well then that makes sense as to why everyone suggests him so often. Samus seems to have very few allies. I'd like to see what Nintendo could do with him! Thanks for the information, by the way. Always appreciate learning more about the games

Takamaru no.
Shulk no.
Robin no.
Anna no.

Those seem like fantasy wants.

Ike will most likely remain, and Chrom will be placed in.

Takamaru and Shulk? You did read Sakurai's comment, right? I HATE Takamaru, but he's really likely with what Sakurai had said after Brawl and Takamaru's appearance in Nintendo Land. Shulk seemed really popular to me and his game did extremely well. True, he could be replaced by another rep from a smaller series (Golden Sun/Sin and Punishment/etc.), but I wouldn't say he's a fantasy want...especially since I've never played his game lol

Robin and Anna are a bit biased though, admittedly

You think Ike will remain? I can't see why he would, unless you believe that Roy was also supposed to be in Brawl (which is possible due to the Forbidden 7 rumor). Chrom I could definitely see being in...or Lucina, but mostly Chrom.

I just see Ike remaining for some reason. Looking at the SSE it just seems like he should stay.

Sakurai also said that the roster could possibly be limited due to constraints on the 3DS. If the roster is shrunken then I think they stand 0% chance. Much more applicable people.

If the roster is bigger then sure.

follyoftheforbidden In reply to Kaiology [2013-06-18 22:36:56 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, I see. Although it does suck that the SSE isn't returning for the newest Smash :/ good ol' Adventure Mode it is.

Really? I had though that was a false report, but I could totally be wrong. Then again, I guess I never really know when to trust Sakurai, seeing as how he said he'd never include an Animal Crossing character and look what happened

I'm curious: where do the problems with the Mii come in? I think it could work really well in the game, but people seem to really resent the idea. I'm with you on Pac-Man though, I think he'd stick out like a sore thumb.

Anna is an interesting prospect... she hadn't occurred to me before. I would be inclined to say 'no' on the MyUnit, though: as much as the character is actually pretty set-in-stone, it's still perceived as a cipher-like avatar character, and unlike the Mii the degree of customization would not be easy to build in. I think Smash gravitates towards "iconic" characters, and I'm not sure the MU fits the bill. Anna, on the other hand, does so well that I'm surprised this is the first suggestion I've seen for her-- probably because most people making these rosters know zero about FE. P:

follyoftheforbidden In reply to RisingSunfish [2013-06-18 12:53:56 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I think for me it's just a matter of whether or not there are more deserving characters. Sure, he represents the Wii series, but I don't particularly find that series to be more important than others tbh. Besides, it was always a battle between Mii and Villager imo bc I feel like they would play very similarly. Now that the Villager is confirmed, and he even uses things like bowling balls (a la Wii Sports), I feel like they'd be very similar. But I totally think they're going to be in. Yeah, Pac-Man is not my cup of tea lol

I'm glad you like the Anna idea a few people talked about her on the SSB4 boards, but I thought of her since she was announced for Awakening. With Mii and Villager, I admit, Robin's not likely. I honestly think Chrom or Lucina will take that spot, but I figured I'd throw him in their for my own personal flair. It really is true, no one ever knows FE >.< which is hard because I personally love the series so much and there are so many potential characters for Smash within it

RisingSunfish In reply to follyoftheforbidden [2013-06-18 22:15:54 +0000 UTC]

In terms of relevancy, number of games, and moveset variety, the Mii stands out over at least a handful of other contenders, I think. But your point about the Villager does make sense. Now, when you said "rumors," were these just forum speculation sort of things or were they like, potential leaks?

I can't see Lucina and Marth side-by-side (in a core, non-DLC roster, I mean), and I definitely don't see Marth going anywhere. I do wish they'd throw in more reps, though... I mean, the series overall probably has a larger cast than any other Nintendo franchise, wouldn't you say?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

follyoftheforbidden In reply to RisingSunfish [2013-06-18 22:40:23 +0000 UTC]

True, the Mii is extremely relevant nowadays, it's just the Villager thing for me. Oh, you haven't heard? Someone had predicted the Villager, Megaman, Wii Fit Trainer, Pac-Man, Mii and Little Mac and said a few would be featured at E3. No one predicts Wii Fit Trainer. Supposedly, the person had been leaked information, but thought it to be false because of WFT, and posted it as a joke. Once it proved to be true, he freaked and now everyone assumes the rest of the characters (Mii, Pac-Man and Little Mac) will be included as well.

Totally agree! The characters just seem tailor-made for Smash. And it's not like you have a shortage of characters in comparison to some other franchises like Metroid. Yeah, Marth and Lucina being together does seem unlikely, but then again, I never know what to expect from Sakurai
