I saw her uniform and hated it. Perhaps a silly concept to many but to me and mine it, meant everything. It was a symbol of my hatred and her hatred for me; the very symbol of the foolhardy war that our countries were so engrossed in. We could not help but be the enemies.
At least that's what our government told us.
With all the propaganda and subliminal messaging, it was hard not to get caught up in the moment. Looking back, signing up for the military was probably the worst thing someone such as me could have ever done. The brainwashing they do to prepare you for these situations only makes what I did next even worse.
I raised my gun and…

I shot them all into the back of that girl. Her blood drained from her in small spurts and as she turned in her death throws, I caught a glimpse of her face. She had a sad smile plastered to her lips before she went limp, almost like she couldn't wait to get away from the hell our world created for us. I watched her until I was sure she was dead, reloaded my gun, and turned to the next target. As my commander once said, there was no use mourning for broken birds.

I can't move. It hurts too much, even to think. All I can hold onto is the hate and love I hold for that little country on the other side of the world. I suppose I don't really have anyone to blame for my predicament other than myself and my country.
Our government was the one that started the war. We had enough supplies, but we got greedy. The other country had everything. Food, water, clean cities, and over all, a prospering society; our envy has turned into the destitution of what was once a beautiful nation.
I never joined the army out of honor. Honestly, I just wanted to fight. So I did, and look where it got me; six shots in my sorry hide and fading fast.
Well, if I'm going to go out, I might as well go guns blazing. Bring it on death, I got things on my mind and no time to waste.
I am here and I am ready to die.
