This should be like one of those famous mytho. creatures like the human faced dog and stuff. it seems like something an olden times person would think of if they saw a baboon in the dark.

Are you thinking perhaps of the works of Guy Davis, particularly his comic The Marquis? Obscene creatures were abound in it and there was also a horse with a mask over its anus. To say more would spoil the story.
