As observer, some of the things you're grateful are details and freshness. I've a look on ForestDiver's artwork and I'm impressed how she incorporates nature elements, giving her portraits more than an esthetic appearance, in fact, she makes the most of them, using as a tool to stand out the emotion described on the piece.
In this sense, I find Lake Mermaid full of encrypted aspects. The lotus flower or Nile's Rose most important meaning is body and soul's purity. The muddy water that takes the plant in is tied with attachment and carnal desires, while the immaculate flower that grows to light is the promise of purity and spiritual rising.
Undoubtedly mermaid's symbolism is loaded of eroticism and forbidden passions. So, the metaphor is more than pertinent.
By other way, lotus stem is the emblem of man's boundless possibilities. The painting's protagonist wears this flower stem as earrings and it's undeniable that mermaids culturally have been all a chance, finding their way through arts.
The little fish swimming around the mermaid's hair add movement and depth to the painting.
ForestDiver, your chromatic scheme's use is perfect, the colors are intense, emphasize mermaid's beauty. She displays herself defiant, knowledgeable of her charming. I love her facial expression.
