Description
When you plan on making a character since the beginning of the group but get distracted by other ideas So here's Rut, finally, after a year. I went through so many different outfit designs but I'm finally happy with this one! I hope you guys like her! If anyone would like to RP please feel free to send me a note!Name: Rut Oren
Age: 19
Birthday: 15th of Rains
Gender: Female
Height: 5'4"
Race: Half-Elf (Dark)
Class: Scout
Occupation: Maid
City: Tusa
Allegiance: Koben Empire
Personality: Independet| Stubborn| Combative| Loyal| Motherly| Blunt|
Growing up in a home with many children, Rut learned from an early age to be independent and take care of herself. While she enjoys being around other people, she's also very happy to be left alone to do her own thing. This independence also makes her extremely stubborn. She likes things to be done her way or not at all. If she's made up her mind about something, nothing short of a miracle or life saving heroics is going to change it. She dislikes people without strong convictions, and would much rather you disagree with her and be passionate about it, instead of not caring at all. That being said, she will stand up and fight to prove her point, even if she knows the person will never be swayed (often she continues to argue even after she's won or lost). Rut says what she thinks and stands by it. In a fight or flight situation, Rut will always choose to fight (whether it's physical or verbal fighting depends on the situation). To her, passiveness and inaction will never bring anything good.
But she is not without a softer side. Her upbringing as also caused her to be keenly aware of poverty and people's troubles. If she takes a liking to someone, she'll protect them forever, as long as they are loyal to her. She tends to take people under her wing and try to take care of them. In group situations she often becomes the "mother", being both incredibly caring about people and quick to chastise them. She does this in a effort to keep them safe, and make them a better person, even though some find her overbearing.
History: Aoife Blarach was a young Relan woman, raised in the well bred household. THe strict Relan rules butted heads with her free spirit, and she grew to deeply resent her family. Aoife's rebellious attitude grew as she matured, and her parents finally decided to send her away to live with her Uncle, hoping by the time she returned she would have matured enough not to embarass them. Unfortunately for them, the streets of Linhythe weren't exactly the place to learn proper behavior. Her favorite activity became toying with the young sailors as they came in and out of port. One particular sailor, a young Navy man caught her eye, and they had a brief but passionate affair. The young man left for a new port about a month later, and Aoife quickly got over him. That is, until she discoverd she was pregnant.
In a panic, she fled to Tusa, where one of her dearest friends had set up a trading post. Aoife told no one where she was going, and nine months later she gave birth to a little girl, who she named Rut. Not a fan of children, and feeling she had learned her lesson about disregarding her parents' rules, Aoife left the child in the nearest orphanage and went home to Reluir as quickly as she could. She invented a fantastic stroy to describe her absence, but they were so releaved to finally find her that they accepted it.
Little Rut's life in the orphanage was as good as could be expected. The headmistress was kind enough, but not overly warm. Because there were so many children in the orphanage for the headmistress to take care of, Rut grew up very independently from an early age. She was always an adventurous child, and was often scolded for climbing buildings or running off simply to see what was out there. As she grew, Rut, as one of the oldest children, became a leader of a small group of young girls, who followed her everywhere.
Unfortunately, this could not last forever. As she grew older, Rut began to notice the problems of the orphanage. They brought in little money, and were running out. The closing of the orphanage would be assured if a large sum of money was not found quickly. By this time Rut was 16, and old enough to leave the orphanage, but she couldn't bare the thought of leaving her friends on the street.
An opportunity soon presented itself in the form of Cyrus Gerhardt, a wealthy officer in the Imperial Army. He had recently been transfered to Tusa, and needed a maid to care for his home. Rut learned of the job opening through friends who had left the orphanage, and they hatched a plan. If she got the job, she would use her access to allow them into the house. They would take everything and disappear, selling whatever they could so the orphanage wouldn't close.
Rut expected to despise her new employer. Growing up in an impoversihed Tusar neighborhood, she had always accepted the ideas of the revolution as fact. She had felt stealing from a government man would be justified. But what she found was not an oppressor, but a kind, compassionate man who treated her well and loved his young son more than anything in the world. When the time came for the robbery, she couldn't bring herself to betray his trust. She refused to let her old friends in, and begged for them to find another way. After hours of arguing, the would be thieves gave up and left. The next morning she shamefully confessed the plan to her employer. Though he was initially enraged at her plotting, his anger subsided and turned to compassion. He decided to lend the orphanage the money to keep their doors open, on the condition that Rut and all her companions stay away from thieving, and try to live honest lives from now on. Rut was shocked and ecstatic, and after furiously thanked him.
With her adoptive family secure, and her views on the government beginning to change, Rut happily continued her life as Gerhardt's maid, and the mentor of many of the orphans. As the situation in Tusa started to escalate, Rut's allegiance's soon began to be pulled between "her people" and her new friends and benefactor. Her inner conflict was only heightened by one of the biggest shocks of her life.
A letter from her mother.
The envelope arrived on a day like any other. Unfamiliar with the name or handwriting, Rut opened it. At first, she didn't believe what she was reading. The letter was a lengthy apology for abandoning her, and it begged for her forgiveness. Rut was ready to throw the letter out. How dare she contact her now, after leaving her in the desert as a baby? But she kept reading. The second half of the letter was a detailed account of Rut's birth, her family lineage, and a final detail that made Rut's stomache sink- the name of her father. Her anger quickly subsided to determination. The letter said her mother didn't know where he currently was, and with the war going on he could possibly be anywhere. But Rut knew what she had to do. She had to find him. If there was even a slight possibility of having a family she was willing to take it. Gerhardt protested, but her mind was made up. Begrudgingly he agreed to use his military connections to aid her. After some digging, he discovered her father's last known address.
With that simple piece of information, Rut set out on her own for the first time. She had a mission now. She had to find her father. She had to find Aurek Dombrowski.
Additional info:
- Currently, she is following the land road from Tusa to Bratkowice.
- Her last name was given to her at the orphanage, so that she would have a name to put on legal documents should that be necessary. She only uses it when necessary, and normally only introduces herself as Rut
- When she was young, some of the children picked on her and called her "Runt". One bloody nose and that quickly ended.
- She hates shoes, and feels restricted by them. As a result of the hot Tusar sand, the bottoms of her feet are thickly calloused and feel like rocks
- She's very proud of her nose ring
- She's very self conscious about her flat chest and freckles
- Her favorite color is blue, because it reminds her of water. She dreams of seeing the ocean one day
- Rut has a soft spot for cats, and plans to own many one day
- She doesn't directly support the Tusar Rebels or the government. While she thinks reforms are necessary, her experience with Gerhardt has made her realize that most of the government is not evil, and likely wants to help.
Relationships:
- Aoife Blarach: Biological mother. Rut hates her for abandoning her, and has no desire to ever meet or make ammends with her.
- Mehra Deboo: Headmistress of the orphanage, Rut considers her to be her adoptive mother. She is tough but fair, and Rut admires that greatly
- Cyrus Gerhardt: Rut's employer, and surprisingly close friend. She feels permanently indebted to him, both for his help with the orphanage and with finding her father
- Josef Gerhardt: Cyrus's 6 year old son. Rut loves to play with and take care of him. He's almost like a little brother
- Aurek Dombrowski: Biological father. Rut has fantasized about what he will be like, but mostly she just hopes he will be kind, and willing to be a family. SHe's mind it her life's mission to find him, no matter what he is like.
