Description Four of my newest art dolls, posing together!

Kotori the werewolf: foxloft.com/art-dolls/werewolv…

Baako the fennec fox: foxloft.com/art-dolls/fox/baak…

Memri the red fox: foxloft.com/art-dolls/fox/memr…

and Kabuki the Kitsune: foxloft.com/art-dolls/fox/kabu…

*As a side note, I know the source of each of the furs I use for making these and other craft pieces. I mostly use fur from rabbits which were raised as food, and I am both cognizant and aware of where my materials come from. None of the furs come from animals taken solely for fur purposes.

They're beautiful little art dolls that have a lot of character, however it's obvious that they're not 'mostly rabbit fur'. To be honest, they'd still be perfect using only faux fur, which would be more commendable! It's just a shame, I want to like them very much, but this amount of fur, even from animals shot as pests bothers me.

Sorry! There's just no need for it in this day and age.

All the small foxes are made just with rabbit fur from food rabbits. I'm aware where the other furs (only on the werewolf in this piece, around the mane) come from which is mostly repurposed/vintage.
I do use faux fur as well as actual fur - honestly I think many of the processes used to make synthetic fabrics and fake fur are more damaging to the environment than repurposed furs will ever be. I am not against the use of natural materials, especially from food animals, when used responsibly.  I think there are many, many issues regarding animal welfare that need to be addressed in this country - especially factory farming (and the massive scale it is at in every grocery store and restaurant here) that people tend to demonize fur which in my opinion is generally looking the wrong direction.
I respect everyone's opinion about the use of animal parts for food, craft, and clothing - I work closely with wildlife and pets, and I have put a lot of thought into this over the years.

I would be very careful about rabbit fur as only 8% of all rabbit furs are a by-product of the meat industry. Food rabbits have thinner skin, which is undesirable, hence why so many rabbits are still farmed for their fur. If your rabbit furs are unusual colours, you should be suspicious. Here's some information on that ill-informed industry: www.respectforanimals.co.uk/fa…
Same goes for faux fur, there's a serious lack of information, but fur farming causes just as much environmental damage through general bad hygiene and lack of maintained filtration systems.

At any rate, I acknowledge that you respect everyone's opinion and I am mindful of your own. I'm just saying nothing is that black or white. I used to use real fur myself and could never really tell where is came from. Now I don't use it at all, or faux fur very much in all honesty. The only natural product I do use are feathers and I go to painstaking lengths to know where they came from and if they were shed naturally, whether from a field in the wild or a high welfare turkey farm in the States. I just don't want to be a part of the problem.

Anyway, as I said, I love the design of these cute little guys, just not the real fur!

I agree, just because an animal is farmed for food doesn't mean it's taken care of, and most rabbits are not well kept (just like most industrial agriculture).  I do know where my pelts come from, though, and the people who raise them.  I hope to eventually raise them myself (mostly for feeding birds of prey, rehab animals, my dogs, and ourselves) and then I can be even more confident in how they are cared for.
I am happy to know you care, most people do not and it's led the state of agriculture to be a really devastating one at this point.  I respect your opinion and appreciate your input.   I am not personally against the use of fur when it is done in a way that is mindful and humane in how the animal was raised and/or caught/killed.  But I also eat meat and am working towards self-sustainability in that regard and a larger overall connect-with-your-food type of movement. I feel if more people had exposure to farms, animals, where their food comes from it would go a long way to helping with a lot of these issues

Ugh! I apologise for my belated reply. It's not my intention to be rude, just that DA and I aren't the most familiar friends at the moment!

I just wanted to say, that your planning to raise feeder rabbits is such an excellent idea. You mentioned that you keep exotic animals already, so at least you can be sure you're giving them the best life possible!

Yes, it seems a chronic affliction of the human race not to care. We've made life so complicated, especially where the use of animals is concerned that it's hard to go back to simpler ways!

Also, agreed! People are blinded. A short amount of time spent in those environments would set them right, you're right!
