Description
"Seeing is different than being told."Proverb from Kenya
-----------
In between the collaborations I have in the works, I found this photograph and was instantly touched by it. I knew I wanted to make something from it... and just followed the inspiration as I went along. As I researched Kenya, where this girl is from, I was struck by the fact that Kenya... much like the Himalayas (and the focus of another of my manipulations of the same name: [link] )... is a butterfly rich country. And so it made sense to adorn this young one with the intense, piercing gaze... with the brilliance of butterflies.
I chose to make this piece in more of a 'collage' form. A nod to one of my favorite collage artists, Nick Bantock.

Kenya is the place where the two stone tablets are located. They are being guarded by the Katulu tribe.

The Katulu Tribe protects the Teachings of Water in the Mountains of Kenya. They learned how to conserve water and also how precious water is as a resource.

I am touched by this. Much art here is... how can I say it... Maybe not containing the most deep meanings, but mostly most for fun. Of cause I can't say that I am better or any special, my art is made for fun. But this reminds e of my sponsor child in Kenya. I have a picture of her when she looks in the same way in the camera, and this art reminds me of her. But with all your details it makes me think. Thank you for making this. That is all I can say.

While taking a stroll through your gallery, this piece here grabs my attention and seems to not let go again! I really like the aged-looking texture and the many colourful details. Though the whole of it looks playful, the intensity of her gaze makes me reflect also. I love that about art. So definite fave.
While I'm at it I also want to thank you for watching me. I do feel proud to have gotten your interest You sure got mine!

Beautiful piece, love love LOVE the colors. A friend of mine is in South Africa right now, she is a director of Orphan care at one of the churches there. I got a email from her a few days ago and she had been robbed at gunpoint in the CHURCH. Her and the volunteers were unharmed but I think it shook her up a bit.
