Description
This is part of a series of drawings I am working on entitled Preparations.I am a left handed artist but this entire series is being composed using exclusively my right hand. I feel that this not only slows me down but it forces me to be a bit more introspective with each mark I make.
This series makes use of several languages including English, Latin, Old English, French, and Runic. The symbolic language used is based in Astronomy, Astrology, Alchemy, Biology, Chemistry, and many different religions. I use these languages as tools to create the composition and "prepare" the pseudo-alchemic/pagan recipe or incantation.
These are all illustrated on the backs of old (1850's-1890's) English legal documents. These are made of calf vellum and some are very ornately printed and hand written on the other side. I am using this to not only bring a feeling of importance and age but also as a way of bringing the people mentioned in the documents back to the attentions of the living. In other words, resurrecting them.
I would be happy to explain these in great length, but I feel leaving a veil of confusion gives them a certain something I can't really explain.

Great series with all the elements nicely combined and well balanced! Beautifully mysterious and magical drawings! The fact that as a left-handed you created these with your right hand is remarkable!
I've also tried changing hands, and it does require quite a lot of practice! I'm considering of trying calligraphy left-handed when I create a conlang script written from right to left.

Thank you, it was a challenge but we'll worth the effort. I'm still making this series but my pc has been dead for quite some time so I cannot image any of them. Soon though. I'd love it if you would direct me to a link with your alternative hand writings.

To start, I think it is amazing that you have composed all of these works with your right hand! It's fantastic!
The general tone and style to this series is one that I have never seen the likes of before. When I first saw them, I
was surprized and very interested. I just wanted to keep looking at them. There is so much to see. This series
certainly carries a viewers eye through the entire page.
This is some of your best work yet to me! Keep it up.

Thank you for that. This is one of the most labor intensive illustration projects I have ever undertaken. I have several more pages I still need to image and I am making more all the time. This project has almost become a cryptic journal of my life and interests; although not my initial intent, a pleasant directional change. I am very pleased you enjoy these as they are truly unlike anything I've ever done before. I appreciate the input and I hope that the manuscript will be complete by mid summer. 40-50 pages with handmade binding...maybe, haha.

Wow! I can't wait to see a whole 40-50 pages of
this art. It really is fantastic. I always like
looking at a person's art and wonder how it is
they see the world and what art floats around in their
imagination.

My imagination is a trash dump of experiences and information. Sometimes I can't keep it contained and need to make artwork to satiate the overflow.

I hold the same feeling at times. But I don't quite
have the number of experiences as you do, so my art is
less informed.
Not to say your old or anything!!

That's really neat sort of reminds me of ancient documents, like the davinci notebooks or egyptian papyrus, right down the the texture of the papers...
It's specially awesome you could do something like this using your right hand...i tried sketching with my left hand but i don't really have enough dexterity to do anything that i was really happy with i've read of people train themselves to the point of being accustomed to it tho..

I actually started drawing these after reading several books on religious philosophy and other related texts. So...it's not so far off from what you mentioned in a way.
As for training to be able to write cursive right handed...it took me about seven weeks to be fully capable of doing so. I practiced quite often and filled many many pages with words and gibberish while just trying to learn the finger movements. But just like any art form, writing well and ornately will take much more time to accomplish. I am quite pleased that I am able to do this however; before I started I was afraid these would end up like incomprehensible scribbles.
