Althea was very young the first time she met her grandfather. He was a collector of jewels and other such priceless things, as well as odds and ends that most people would find unimportant or uninteresting. Yet all of these bits and bobs and doodads fascinated Althea. It wasn't until her second summer when she came to visit that he chose to show her the family heirloom, a large black pearl pendant. It was dubbed by the appraisers as 'The Temptress' due to its half tennis ball size. Every night after the whole estate went to bed, Althea would see strange glowing and twinkling lights floating in the air. After several nights of this Althea got up and followed them back to find that The Temptress was glowing on its own.

Many summers passed after that until her grandfather passed away and in his will he left her parents everything else in the estate. It was after this time that Althea's parents who didn't know what to do with the large amounts of clutter began to sell everything and would auction off the jewels to museums and personal collectors. Althea was heartbroken that her Grandfather had entrusted them with his legacy and they had just turned it all down. As soon as Althea was 16 a clause was revealed in her Grandfather's will that left the estate and The Temptress to Althea in the hopes that she would preserve his collection and add to it with her own. Determined to uphold her Grandfather's wishes she began to hunt and track down all the items that her parents had sold.
