Description
A really common mistake that even experienced artists make is not matching the pelvis with the rest of the body, causing the appearance of a broken spine. I've done this myself many times! The spread legs pose, whether squatting or sitting is one of the most difficult to get right. Here's some studies I did with breakdowns for things to watch out for.
I drew a little strip of pubic hair to give an extra visual queue to the direction of the pelvis.
I made this sfw version in case artists who don't draw nudity want to study it, but if you are of age you might want to view the nude version, as well. Being aware of the actual anatomy in the "panty area" and how it fits together may help know why things are where so you visualize and construct the figure easier. On the other hand, you can probably imagine it just as a box corner and be alright. Most clothes will slightly hide the area anyway. Regardless, feel free to check it out if you want, link is here:

CLARIFICATIONS:
Sitting with good posture in a chair will look like the top left example.
The reason I mention that the hips will tip back "at rest" is because of the S-curve of the spine. So if someone's back is "straight", or in better words neutral, the pelvis will not be straight up and down. This is true whether sitting, standing, or lying down.
Yes those creases will eventually show up even if the character/person has very little bodyfat. The skin itself is folding.
MASCULINE HIP STRUCTURE:
For people wanting to draw a more masculine or androgynous figure, the concept is the same. You just have to keep in mind the different shape of the pelvis. Dimorphism between pelvis shapes starts as early as the womb though most noticeable changes occur during puberty. This is caused by multiple factors, including hormone exposure/production as well as environmental and genetic influence. Anyway, keep in mind that there is a lot of variation regardless of what genitals are there. Here's an article about some of the differences between 'android' (traditionally masculine/heart shape) and 'gynecoid' (traditionally feminine/oval shape) skeletal structure:

Hope this helps you! If I got anything wrong let me know.

KrisCrash's tutorial (found on HF and FA). This is NSFW as it includes (very simplified) images of penetration, but it is still a good guide, showing how the genital area is influenced by the pelvic bone. Send me a note if you are of age and would like help finding it.

Rinayun's breakdown of the inner thigh muscles (found on HF). This one shows just anatomical nudity, and really helps point out the placement of the gracilis and adductor longus muscles. However, I can't link to it here. Send me a note if you are of age and would like help finding it.

Ugh its really annoying that I can't change around stuff in my folders right now. I hope that's a temporary thing going on and not a permanent change.

Where you have the 'no don't do this symbol'; I see that pose done all the time in anime and it's always bugged me. It's like the character's spine breaks while they're sitting up straight and sitting down and it just looks...downright awkward (and painful). I don't know why people keep doing it.

I think most people learn how to draw the body in a standing-up-straight orientation, and instead of learning bone/muscle/fat placement they memorize the silhouette shapes of the different parts. Then when you do try to use a different position and apply those shapes you learned before they don't make sense. I learned the skeleton when I first buckled down into learning anatomy but I skimped out on learning muscles. Its only been more recently I've been doing that and I still struggle with proper muscle placement.
You'd think that a professional company would catch that kinda stuff though.

Hi, do you think you could mark this as mature content? I know it's not nude per se but the posing especially of the female is rather sexual and I'd prefer not to have this show up on completely unrelated searches. Thanks.

The female? All the bodies pictured are the same, I'm not sure which pose you mean.
Anyway I was hoping to have this available to those with the mature content filter on as its an artistic issue in many SFW pieces as well as NSFW. They are poses made in many nonsexual scenarios such as fitness classes (pilates, yoga, ballet, etc). However, if it is disturbing to people it costs me nothing to change it. Done! I will mark it as sexual content even though no sexual content was intended.
Do you think that making a version in a bodysuit or leotard/tights would be fine to upload without a mature content label? Skintight clothing is necessary when talking about anatomy.
