RUBY RED... and her Treasure Chest!
Okay, you guys from "Punishment" [link] who wanted to see the Wenches... this is one of 'em. If memory serves, Ruby Red is my first ever published Nude.
The description called for nudity, and it gave me pause. Should I? Shouldn't I? Should I even take the assignment on? Should I do all the other spot illustrations, and respectfully decline this particular one?
At the end of the day, I took the plunge... so if she was going to be topless, then topless she will be. None of the cheating with strategically placed strands of hair and stuff... it's like, here it is... here they are...

What I love more in this pic is the rough work. I've always liked the feel of it since it shows the body of the artwork.

I don't understand the reluctance a lot of illustrators and comic book artists have towards nudity. Nudity has been an aspect of fine art since early man scribbled dirty etchings on their caves to impress the young cavegirls.

I agree with you 100%, ROGUE DEREK.
But just to put it a bit more into context. Artists have to eat too. I was doing a lot of work for children books, and it was tuff enough to shake the "you draw really sexy wimmens" impression people have of me. And that is when they are fully clothed. Add a bit of nakedness to the mix, and not only would they stop hiring me to draw cutsey-kiddie stuff... they would start hitting me with dusty copies of "Seduction of the Innocents" too. People are still surprised I can do both, that I actually want to do both, and that people actually hire me to do both.
The nudity thing should not be a big deal, to me it is not a big deal... now more than ever. But to a lot of people it is a big deal, and a lot of those people just happen to be art directors and editors.
Homeboy gots to eat you now, so I had to give it serious thought.
And yeah... maybe next time there will be bush... why the hell not? I scoff at the establishment, plus I can always make a living doing other stuff.

Really, I should have thought of that off the bat. That it'd be a question of prospective clients reacting negatively. I suppose it's why some pros use pseudonyms online for the more risque artwork.
As for bush, glance at my gallery and you'll see I'm bush obsessed (my ComicArtFans gallery too). I'd kill to see a drawing by you of a gal sporting a full 70s bush.
Well, maybe not kill. Maim possibly.

LOL... yeah. I hear ya... and a nome de plume, a pen name, a pseudonym, a rose by any other name... sounds like a good solution. Probably a smart one too.
Not sure if I could pull that off thought. I look at people's art who I am somewhat familiar with, and can pick it out of a lineup. Artwork is like a finger print... I rarely have to look at the signature to see if it's a John Byrne drawing, or a John Buscema, Art Adams, etc.
I don't want to encourage the moral minority by giving the impression I am ashamed of the human body, or my artwork, because I am not.
I recall the days Michelangelo painted nudes inside of a church, and it was no big deal... the masterpiece was celebrated and considered divine. Then a few years go by, and allovasudden it was blasphemous and they painted the equivalent of big black boxes on the private parts of his art.
Their descendants are still cashing in on the works he created on one of the world's biggest tourist attraction to this very day. Yet in his own lifetime, they had no problem slapping him in the face, by desecrating his artwork.
Every artist has to find that balance between the freedom of expression and survival. I am just making it up as I go along, and hopefully I can keep having fun creating my art... whatever shape it might take, for a very long time. Even if that shape happens to be an Hourglass, I can be okay with that. I love drawing wimmens!

Actually, some of the cardinals complained to the Pope about the nudity in Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling and Last Judgement altar fresco. One complained so much that Michelangelo included him in the Last Judgement as a demon. The man again complained to the Pope who replied that he had no dominion over Hell.
Point is there's always been complainers who see any skin as blasphemy. Go figure.
But again, you're right that a lot of artists are easily identifiable by their own style and abilities.
I used an internet identity when I first got online and joined an adult art group but quickly started using my real name. I just didn't see the point in pretending to be someone else. Since I've been in a dry spell and haven't drawn in 5 years it's now moot anyways.
And I for one am ever glad you love drawing wimmens (it was my favourite subject to draw too). It's what you were born to do. I'm just happy you share them with us on here!
