This is them knowing that Batman survived the subway sabotage after Two-Face said to Riddler that he can be "the smartest person in Gotham City." Both Tommy and Jim hated each other due to Cobb didn't perform well at the box office, but both Tim and Joel knew that they need to get along with each other one day. In the first two drafts written by the Batchlers, I pictured both Tommy Lee Jones and Robin Williams doing that scene, and when I watched that scene, both Tommy and Jim done it well, despite them hated each other.
