Just updating my journal for the sake of updating my journal.

In case some were wondering about the lack of uploads, I've recently began having pains in my drawing hand and wrist. Being a self-taught artist, the drawing method I grew up using has seen very little adjustment (until recently at least). Along my path to ultimate artist-dom, I was taught the "correct" way of drawing by a man named Yuri, but since that time in high school I've long since gone back to what felt easier for me. I've always depended solely on rigid wrist movements for drawing and now since I've recently began having pains in the nerves (I think that's how it works), I decided it was time to finally make a lasting adjustment.

So, I've begun incorporating more arm movement and loosening up my shoulders so that I can make larger sweeping motions in my art and sketch more loosely and with less pressure from my hand. At the moment, my art is a bit shaky, but since I've been doing a few exercises daily, I've begun to regain a bit of control. I have pages and pages in my sketchbook filled with ellipses, spirals, and geometrical shapes in perspective (no straight edge). My natural line drawing abilities are definitely better than they've ever been, but completing an entire drawing is still a chore.

This is all a welcome challenge, as I only see myself improving from this. Long story short, I'll be back.

I also face the same problem...
I even started to train my left hand, but my drawings look soooo terrible... look like they were drawn by a baby!!!.
Anyway, I wish (even with my right hand) they looked as good as yours.
Lovely, gallery you got.
Keep on drawing.

Oh maaaan good luck with that, my professors definitely instilled in me a fear of carpal tunnel, so take care of your hand!!  Those exercises should help, but also I've been thinking of getting a wrist brace too... whatever works, man!!  Good luck!!  O:
(I've been meaning to do those ellipse-drawing exercises too, as I absolutely suck at ellipses, hahah)

Yeah, my ellipses are all over the place. haha. The lines and perspective boxes are much easier. And I too have been considering a wrist brace.

You'll definitely see a difference. For me, I trained myself not to slouch when I draw, which was a super hard habit to break. But I'd rather break a bad habit than my back!

Haha That's good life advice.

Good luck with it dude, you do gotta look after those wrists! I've had a few posture related issues since I started drawing ever more frequently and have made adjustments to everything from my seating position to my tablet angle. It's worth doing though, I still sometimes get some numbness in my fingers but in my case it seems it's actually my shoulder that tightens up and constricts the nerve. A good excuse for getting my significant other to massage it!

It's essential to look after your tools for any skilled craftsman, and your body is the one tool that's truly irreplaceable!
