Description A setting I created for the mentioned purpose in my journel. Did all that in around a weekend. The lighting is terrible, but I don't really have time to redo it, since the finals are here. The lady in the bg is Nat Portman It was the only picture I had that was the right height and width The floor is acutally a repeating texture, with some smudging and ambient mapped to it to make it look real, same for the wallpaper. The glow effect, although there, is froma cone which forms a light cone around the drums, shame the jpg compression losses that. Shadows were depthmaps, on settings to reduce render time. Drums were build from scratch from some sketches I made, and has bout 5000 + objects in total.

Please post constructive comments I could really use some help with lighting etc.

I agree with ~melancholicsoul. Make the metal a tad bit more glossy and reflective, and maybe add a ripple texture to them as well if you can. Maybe reduce the the amount of light reflected/refracted from the left main drum up to the closest disc, as it makes it look synthetic. Also lower the main lightsource a tad, and maybe put a directional spotty above the photo aiming down. Give it that 'Jazz Club' feel

Apart from that, very nice.

May be some low intensity lighting from the front left and from the back would help in outlining this a bit more. As it is though, this looks really good already. Great modeling and fairly good texturing. I like it

Yeah, either add some omnis for fake radiosity or make a real radiosity solution (if your modeler has the option).

Hi,

I like the scene, it looks good. On the drums, I think the specularity and reflectivity (metal parts) should be set a little
higher. To make it look a bit more realistic from a lighting POV, you might want to decrease the strength of the overhead spot and add several ambiant omnis, probably with shadows disabled. I think the lighting is very dramatic, though... First time I've ever seen drums looking scary... Out of curiosity, what modeling program are you using?

Nate
