Just downloaded, compiled and installed gimp 2.4-rc2 yesterday, so I tested it out. This is how I think the gimp splash screen should be.

If you want to make your own splash screen, please remember you should reserve about 50 pixels down at the bottom of the image to make the scrolling messages readable.

Also, if you want to see this splash screen in action, download this and save it to /usr/share/gimp/2.0/images/gimp-splash.png (standard location, might be different on your system).

Edit: did I say it was ready? No, it wasn't! And I'll refine it until I feel it's fine, if I feel like it. Anyway, thanks inkscape, for the better splash shapes!
