Description I've worked two days on this one, but it didn't went quite as good because I still can't do cast shadows well, or render wood on graphite. (Dammit!)
Boy, I'm sooooooo tried. Really. To top it off, I can't find something to aoid graphite to spread so I tried some new hair spray and it kinda burned out the image and gave it some strange reflexes. (It can't be seen on its digital counterpart.)

Anyway, enjoy!

You do realize too that the pieces don't need to be exactly in the center of each square, right?

Yeah. I was just comenting that with somebody a few hours ago about the perspective. I drew and shaded the chessboard into one perspective and saw the pieces into another. About the cast shadows: I'm working on it. But I don't understand your advice about the background piece. They are very close together, so the background piece can't be that smaller...

1. You need to work more on your shadows
2. The foreground piece is in perspective (considering the shadow too) but:
3. The chessboard it viewed from the top (no perspective) and
4. The piece in the background almost fits (if not totaly fits) a square compared to the closer piece
