Description I have had a plan to redraw the very first deviations I ever submitted - desktop backgrounds featuring Nintendo heroes from the Famicom [link] and Disk System [link]

The idea was to maintain the original pose, redraw their full bodies individually, then combine them. With the skills I've gained over the years, plus adding in more of their original artwork looks (as I've been doing with the Nintendo All-Stars pieces), I'm hoping to have a really awesome final piece.

This first one is Pit from Kid Icarus. He isn't modelled on his new look from SSB Brawl, but from the original artwork from the NES/Disk System game (but not quite as short or chubby).

A lot of the early artwork wouldn't have been drawn by dedicated game artists like they are these days. I think Zelda and Nazo no Murasamejou had proper, high-quality artists working on the official art for them, but you don't see a similar quality through most of Nintendo's boxart until the SNES days.

You have to remember... these games came out the same year that Nintendo finally decided on the "look" of the Mario characters for SMB2j, including Luigi being taller and slimmer.

The plan is to colour it and put it together with a load of other characters in a large recreation of my old desktop wallpaper:

They will likely get posted here at various stages in the process.

I do have a few of the other characters on the go at the moment, for both this and the Famicom medley wallpaper. Including a special project I'll post soon

I miss Pit's short and chubby look. It's nice to see art of him that isn't in the new style. Call me weird but the one feature of this pic that drew me... was his feet. You made them so cute. I like his shoes.

That is very strange

But I'm glad you like him in classic style. It's the look I'm aiming for with all of them on this project. Tricky, but great fun - and great practice for capturing a range of styles while maintaining consistency between them all!

You say he's not as chubby, but he has got a bit of a cherub look going still. Not sure if it was intentional. He looks cute with it though. ^_^


I have to say though, looking at his face reminds me of two things. My Kibi (chibi-me)... and [link] It gives him a kind of spacy not-sure-if-he-knows-what-he's-doing-but-will-enjoy-it look.

I think the chibi-you thing is just because I haven't filled his eyes in yet. That kinda spaced out look

Over the years I've tried to combine this design with the one from the Game Boy version. Then Brawl was announced and completely redid him again. I decided a base for the style was required
