This is Umahel! The villain of the second book, it allies itself with humans mostly because the more common avian Verziya absolutely hate it. On the surface it might seem like the hatred is unjustified or simply because Umahel is a mammal rather than an avian, but it's actually very justified, since Umahel is a vicious jerk. It is fully nocturnal (and almost blind) and can fly easily at night, unlike the vast majority of Verziya, and its flying style is so different to theirs that in an aerial battle Umahel is very hard to outrun or outmanoeuvre. Because of its nighttime lifestyle its colours are pretty dull and boring.

Personality info: Umahel doesn't like competition, and it definitely doesn't like sharing space with other demons. It has agreed to help out with the whole apocalypse thing on the condition that it be the only demon working for the Host. Previously it refused to help, but then Haamiath died, and Aniel stopped co-operating, so Umahel stepped in to fill the void. It is the epitome of chaotic evil, much to the annoyance of its own employers, but luckily the humans it maims and kills are entirely disposable. Its human consort is a general in the army, and together the two make an effective Verziya-hunting team.
