Lately I've been rethinking the potion sipper lore! My initial purpose for them was to be a sort of insert species into high fantasy genre rpgs/mmorpgs but my previous lore for the species wasn't achieving that for me. I wanted to be able to have them interact with worlds that are already existing (such as the different FF universes) and DID have on sipper in mind that would be able to warp sippers to other realms but that alone wasn't achieving what I wanted. SO a while back I played with the idea of their lore being centered around multiverse traveling and development in that direction, I really like it! Nothing is set in stone, it's all still in concept, but I felt like sharing since this design exhibits my idea!

Lore notes:
- Sippers are a dragon-like race that exhibit fae-like qualities, being able to use 'glamour', magics that alter how they are perceived by others.
- Each sipper has a form that can be considered their 'true' look which is influenced by how they identify themselves, this form does not expend a lot of magic to take on and is important to use so the sipper doesn't use all of it's magic and 'starve' (rather they fade out of existence)
- The raccoon-ish winged forms that other species often mistake as the true look of the species is just a social construct itself, a general appearance formula that was most socially accepted and reinforced and thus became the go-to template for the species appearance. A sipper child is raised to use this appearance template for their true appearance that gradually changes as they build an identity for themselves, and although their true form generally doesn't become so different from the template that it looks like a completely different species, it CAN happen, although such sippers may have trouble interacting with others of their kind.
- They feed on the magical energies that sustain their existence, which motivates them to travel to other realms and feed off the magics there. However their primary motivation for multiverse travel is to become a 'hi-sipper', which is when they have harnessed the ability to create special crystals on their bodies that can store vast amounts of magic. These crystals both free up the hi-sippers time that would otherwise be spent on feeding and allows them access to much more powerful magics, they are able to take on more important roles, possibly even becoming the leader of their own house (which is a large group of sippers, think of it as a sort of nobility).
- In the process of travelling to other realms, sippers open themselves to a lot of cultural exploration! Their markets are full of items from different realms and stories of adventures. They are however extremely weary of other species knowing of their true nature, it is forbidden to reveal one's true form to non-sippers or to bring non-sippers to sipper lands. This is why sippers who identify enough with another species that their default form reflects that are treated with caution.

This sipper is based on my FF14 character Rime! I'm not sure if I want her official story to be based around her actually being a sipper but I wanted to test the design out like this anyways. As a sipper here, she is especially fond of ice-magic and has reached hi-sipper status through the study of black magic in Eorzea.
