If it looks unpolished and quickly done, then you are seeing it correctly. I'm working on my sketch speed, that and I hadn't drawn anything in quite some time, so I sketched something quickly to try and remind my hand what it feels like. I still think it would have been better if I just left the eye and didn't bother putting a corporeal figure around it.
Oh well, c'est la vie.

Bah on the face. It's one of the better noses I've drawn. Which is why I covered up the mouth so as to not offset it with my horrible lack of facial drawing...ness...yeah. That made sense in some dimension. 
Yeah, I really do. I'm hoping to remedy that....assuming I don't drop anything -else- on my drawing hand.
