I'm impressed with the perspective you chose in this picture.
The crop and viewpoint did work to your advantage in this case.
To date, i've seen many bridge shots taken from the sideway, but never from directly below, and showing a more or less mirrored angle which reflects the composition you've taken on to .
The mist also adds to the mysterious effect along with the details brought out by your decision to create this in HDR. It does make it an overall well-done piece.
Still, not everything is flawless, and if we start going in as anal critiques to create the perfect shot, little details must also be noticed.
My eyes were constantly brought to the object slightly to the right of the left pillar which looks seemingly like a... boat? It was an immediate distraction unlike the trees in the vicinity. What I felt could have been done would be to step a back a little more, and let the pillar cover up that minor distraction.
A little more contrast would also right it as the minor overexposure in the background pushes the eye off slightly. As a HDR piece, be careful not to allow over exposures and underexposures to happen!
Lastly, for amusement, but still, some little anal detail that could be worked on as well. Just above the grass to the left of the picture, a piece of the background/or foreground, has cut into the borders of the crop and blends with that. It doesn't sit well to me, but then again, i'm being extremely anal where I shouldn't be. It might be great to crop it in a few pixels and that should solve it too. The overall lesson in this one as well is to watch out for jutting in objects in the frame that might ruin the picture for no apparent reason.
Still, a great picture to behold and one to be proud of for sure.

Thanks again for taking the time to give a great critique. It's good feedback, and something I need to consider more when I shoot. In scenes like this I often get so focused on the subject that I fail to notice little things in the background. I'll try to keep that in mind. And I've never noticed that little thing cutting into the border, but now it will bug me until I fix it

Vision: I tend to start with the name when looking at the vision of a deviation. The name should imply a meaning or provide an entrance idea or feeling for what the deviants intention of vision is. So with the name provided I have to assume there was no intention of that but it is a photo of a bridge underside. Of course I can come up with my own vision which is the standard and with a photo of a bridge there are many choices for vision.
Originality: The deviation is fairly original. The fog mixed in with the lighting makes for an eerie yellowish tint that I don't see very often. Also, the decay on the bridge legs adds quite a bit of eerie appeal as well.
Technique: Your composition and perspective is truly superb on this deviation. Very mathematical and orderly use of lines. Good job filling the frame and not leaving any dead space. I did happen to notice that the base of the second set of legs down by the river is not centered evenly between the near pair of legs but that's just my eye. Of course that also means the bridge is doing the same thing. If you would have taken two steps right and then shot I think that issue would be resolved. Small detail there.... My first reaction with the lighting was not good, I wanted to immediately run this thing through curves and kill off this yellow tint and get some true light. However, it really has started to grow on me and the yellow hue has begun to form that eerieness I was referring to. You really did do a good job on detail, depth of field, and composition. Some might say the trees on the right are an eyesore but to me it definitely adds a fall/winter feel that just adds to the feeling of darkness and fog. I really like this deviation.
Impact: There is quite a bit of impact here as the structure is giant and there is a feeling of strength and darkness mixed with decay. I really wanted to get in close to look at this shot when seeing the thumbnail and now that I have seen it I realize it has left an impression. Good job.

Thanks for the critique. I found it very useful and well written.
And I agree about the title providing meaning to a deviation. I just suck at naming things

I agree that the square crop was a great choice. It really help to elongate the bridge. I like the color choice. The subtly of the pallet really helps to give the image a certain mood. To me, it feels a somewhat stark and overwhelming. The structure of the bridge becomes almost otherworldly with the pink foggy sky behind it. The pink fog has a really nice interaction with teh green support system of the bridge. The colors work well together, and don't try to dominate each other. The composition really helps attract attention to both the bridge and the structure beneath it. The interaction between the two helps give the image a certain amount of tension that really works well within the frame. Overall Amazing!

Wonderful, imposing shot you've done here. At first glance, I almost thought it was a live version of a Beksinski painting. That probably has a lot to do with your color choices here, as much as anything. I think the yellow and green work very well together.
I believe you made the right choice in the square crop, although, as I stare at it more, the trees on the right side are slightly out of place compared to the foggy, shadowed background. Also, and it may just be me, but there seems to be some slight curving starting about halfway up the pillars, no doubt due to perspective. Maybe a little Straighten Tool in Photoshop or Lightroom can fix it, though it's not noticeable enough to be distracting to non-photographers.
Again, a really wonderful piece of what would normally be a common subject. Keep up the good work.

Thank you so much. I enjoyed reading your critique and have found it useful.
I don't like the trees much either, but there's not too much I can do about that. I asked them politely to move, but they refused

Thank you. Sorry for taking so long to answer, but yes this is an HDR with a 10mm lens (16mm adjusting for the 1.6x sensor size).

Brilliant shot. Great use of light and colour to draw your eye alonge the bridge to the soft, green support structure. The perspective gives it an almost surreal feel.
