In case it wasn't obvious, 1884 is the year this drawing is based around. The clothing is definitely not perfectly accurate. As it ends up it's tricky to find good references for a very specific Victorian-era year. Plus most of the refs I found were for really fancy dresses, and I wanted her in something more casual(?) . . . Anyway, I like the concept I had for this, but I feel like it turned out looking like I had no idea what I was doing. Mind you, I didn't know what I was doing, but I don't want it to be so obvious. I've been drawing for so long, and yet every time I draw I seriously forget how arms work.

On to style stuff. Originally I was going to shiny moe sparkly barf color this like I color everything else, but I just hated the way it looked. In my head this is a serious plot point for these two characters, and it just looked wrong colored fluffy like that.

So I was trying to figure out what to do and I suddenly remembered, in a folder seen by few eyes, I have a whole bunch of Gothic Lolita/Nakamura Asumiko inspired drawings I did a long time ago that had the aesthetic I wanted for this picture. So I started throwing down all these flat primary colors and it suddenly had the feeling I wanted for this piece.
