Ezra

This would be a good day, he could feel it. Ezra and his mate were taken a stroll together, and even though Thea was pregnant, she insisted to come with him and not just stay home at the den, resting. She had gained a new task, Healer, which actually meant she didn’t have move very far from Amoria territory. Nonetheless, Ezra liked her company more than anything, and it did felt a little lonely traveling all by yourself.
They took a lot of breaks, because she couldn’t travel far distances without a little rest, but Ezra didn’t mind at all. They had reached a river and while Thea lowered her head to satisfy her thirst, he couldn’t help but to watch her with love in his yellow eyes. She was his mate, carrying his litter. He felt so fortunate and happy all the time.

Thea
Lowering her body so that her belly rested on the ground Thea lapped at the cool river water until her thirst was satisfied. She found her stroll with Ezra refreshing after having been resting in her den for quite sometime and to get some fresh air she was able to persuade her mate to let her come along. Once she licked the drops of water from her lips her gold and green eyes met Ezra's, their gaze filled with a deep love for one another. Carefully she lifted herself from the floor making her way to Ezra and rubbed her head along his neck closing her eyes and breathing in his scent. "I remember our first adventure together as if it were only yesterday."

Her eyes slowly opened and blinked softly as she reminisced the time when they had first met and when she had joined the pack to be with him. A warm smile crossed her maw as pleasant thoughts gathered and she looked down at her largely swollen belly. It would not be long now for their litter to be born. "I may no longer be a scout, but once our children are old enough I'd like them to see the beauty that this world has to offer. Perhaps one may even keep you company in my place. Wouldn't that be lovely?"

Ezra
As their gaze met, a calm smile widened Ezra’s lips. She was so beautiful; with or without the swollen belly. It had become rather big, which made him think that they had to expect a large litter. He couldn’t wait to becoming a father! And Thea would be the best mom, no doubt about it!
He returned the affectionate neck rubbing, licking her cheek and sighed with love in his eye. What had he done to deserve this happiness, he was feeling right now? He never wanted it to end.
Thea’s words made him remember as well. “If I remember correctly, this was actually the same river as the one you pushed me into at that time,” Ezra said with a smirking gleam in his eye. That was about the same time his crush on her began as well. “Charming me in such an evil way,” he chuckled and gently nipped at her ear. “And look at me now; All wrapped up in your web… Not able to think of anything but you, my dear.” The blue male playfully stuck out his tongue at Thea, until she mentioned the pups, she was caring and a certain calmness fell over him. “I’m sure there are one or two small scouts in there somewhere. One day I’ll take one of them with me…” He couldn’t wait to see all their small, cute faces. Having a family with Thea was a dream come true for him.

Ezra was looking deep into his mate’s eyes, when the sound of a twig snapping reached his ears and he looked over his shoulder. A large bear was walking towards them, probably to get a drink. Though, Ezra’s flattened his ears a bit. He didn’t like it. The river was long. Why did the beast have to drink right where they were standing? A low growl lay in his throat.
“Thea… Get to the other side…” he whispered, still not looking at her. His only working eye didn’t leave the bear of sight. Something was off…

Thea
Thea looked back into Ezra's eyes as he gazed at her with her heart beating quickly. The sound of a twig snapping close by caught the pairs attention immediately. Turning towards the snapping sound a large bear appeared and was making its way towards them, lumbering at a slow pace. Its brown pelt glowed in the sun revealing scars along its flank and on its muzzle with black beady eyes locked onto the wolves.
Thea felt her body freeze in fear at the sight of the creature. It was been years since she had encountered a bear and her last encounter left her with the memory of her father fatally wounded. Memories of the horrific event flashed through her mind reopening the old wound she had tried so hard to forget. Her father had taken a heavy blow to his jaw protecting her and with his bottom jaw nearly ripped off she put him out of his misery that night.

Tears began to form in her eyes and the sound of Ezra's voice sounded muffled in her ears. Her gaze did not leave the bear and soon her body began to shake steadily becoming violent. Her jaws parted slightly as if to say something, but she could not form any words. Suddenly she was able to hear Ezra speaking to her once more yet it was still unclear to her as to what he was saying. Slowly she turned to him as she started coming back to reality. His expression was serious and full of worry. Thea kept herself pressed against him as the bear drew nearer. She looked behind the land across the river and back at Ezra nudging him and looking up at him with eyes full of fear. "Let's cross the river together while we can, quickly!"

Ezra
Thea didn’t seem to move. He could feel her body shake as it pressed itself up against his own. She was scared… “Thea… Thea, listen to me,” he said, trying to get through to her, when she finally replied, pleading him to go together. But if they both turned their backs to the bear, they wouldn’t be able to see, if something was going to happen. No, the most important thing was to get Thea to safety.
“No. I want you to go first. Think of the pups. This is not just about you and me anymore…” Ezra said in a serious, but calm voice. He wouldn’t let anything happen to either her or their unborn children. The big creature was slowly coming closer. The blue male clenched his teeth, before he finally looked at his beautiful mate. “Go. I know you’re scared, but it’s going to be alright. I’ll be with you in a moment,” he promised and nudged her, trying to convince her before the bear got too close. He was afraid it would do something to Thea, if it found out that she was pregnant. “Go…”

Thea
With the bear closing in Thea knew there was no time to argue if she wanted to save their unborn. She would have to cross the river alone while Ezra kept an eye on the bear and distract it from her. As quickly as her heavy body could move she stepped into the cold water and began to wade through it nearly stumbling from a couple of loose rocks, but making it to the other side successfully. The cold temperature of the water had drained most of her energy leaving her with just enough to shake some of the water from her pelt, but her belly made it rough to do.

Glancing back at Ezra she thought she saw the bear moving at a faster pace soon looking as if it would be sprinting at him. Desperately she called over to her mate, "Quickly!" He was all alone on the other side with the large creature and she felt sick to her stomach. There is nothing I can do to help him! I shouldn't have left him! If I can't help him maybe someone else can! Thea braced herself so that she could keep her balance as she threw her head back and let out a desperate howl for her pack members or anyone around to hear and come to their aid. Someone, please!

Now the bear began to sprint towards Ezra, its large paws hitting the ground like thunder. The bear had left him with nearly no time to escape and Thea could only watch in horror at the scene. This can't be happening to us!

Ezra
In the end Thea did as he asked and crossed the river alone. Ezra kept his eye on the bear, but his ears turning backwards, so he was able to hear, if his mate got in trouble. Fortunately she got to safety. In the meantime the bear had picked up its pace, now locking its eyes on the blue wolf at the river bank. It was now or never. At the call from Thea, Ezra turned around to follow her, but at the same time the bear immediately began to sprint towards him. The male could hear it closing in on him and that was when he realized he wouldn’t make it over in time. Ezra stood still with only his front paws in the water. He slowly raised his yellow gaze to meet Thea’s golden and green eyes on the other side. He looked at her with an apology written on his face, sad that he would never be with her again or see their children grow up. But at least Thea was safe and that was the most important thing to him. “I love yo-…” Ezra’s final words were cut short by the encounter with the enormous bear paw from behind. It hit him on the side of his face and flung him through the air. The landing was fatal when the blue male hit a large rock and painted the water at the river bank red…

The bear sniffed at the lifeless wolf before it snorted and looked over at the female on the other side. It tried to step out in the river, but didn’t make it far, before it gave up and turned back with a warning roar at Thea. It looked at Ezra one last time before leaving him and padded away from the crime scene.

Thea
Thea caught his yellow gaze and held it for as long as she could. At that moment they both knew that his end was coming. His last words to his mate were cut short by a brutal strike from the bear connecting to the side of Ezra's face sending him towards a large rock at the rivers edge. Her body froze once more at the sight of his blood flowing into the river. In fear of the bear coming for her next she took a couple steps back as it neared her mate to sniff at his body before finally making its way towards her. As it reached midway it looked at her one last time and then turned back as if deciding it was a waste of time and effort to chase another wolf down. Passing by the blue wolfs body the bear looked at it once more and then left the area for good.

Thea waited until the lumbering giant was far enough and then hurried back to the river, her eyes streaming with tears. This can't be happening...He has to be all right he has to! He can't leave me to raise our pups alone! She splashed into the river and struggled to keep her head above the surface midway, but paddled as hard as she could giving all her strength to make sure her mate was okay.

Once she made it out of the water she hurried over to Ezra's body and licked his face frantically lowering her body so that she lay on the ground beside him. "Ezra? Thea bear is gone now, come on get up." Her voice shook and she buried her face into his pelt and her voice grew softer. "You can't leave me...not now please." She looked over at his handsome face stroking his cheek with her tongue gently and her voice a whisper now as she found it harder to speak, "I love you too, my dearest. I promise I'll take good care of our pups and give them enough love for the both of us." Slowly she looked up to the sky and let out a howl filled with grief letting her tears blur her vision once more.

Thea rest her head on his flank her heart feeling ripped out of her chest. She stared blankly ahead and her ears pricked when she heard the sound of approaching pawsteps and the familiar voices of their pack. Her eyes were dull looking as if she had just lost the world. Gently they tried to help her up, but she refused to move from his body. Before long they seemed to have gotten through to her and helped her wash off the blood in the river while some of the others helped carry his body back to their camp to mourn their loss. Her paws felt numb as she followed her packmates to their home, one of them bracing her. Everything and everyone around her was a blur.

Ezra
