Needed to get this out of my system. This has to be the singe most satisfying thing I've ever drawn. I absolutely love how it came out, this has to be the first time I actually liked my own work from start to finish. I still can't believe I drew clouds like that. Both a highly personal piece and a bit of headcanon. I think it often goes unappreciated how much Rainbow Dash fears failure and letting down herself and her friends. I like to think that before Twilight showed up, she had serious self-esteem issues which is why she overcompensated by trying to appear so confident that it bordered on the cocky.

I've talked to many Bronies, and very few of them see Dash in this perspective. I'm not one of them. I know it's weird to like a pony even more because of a headcanon, but I really do feel that way about Dash. Her cockiness is all a facade.
But, enough about my headcanons. This is an awesome piece of art that captures what I believe makes Rainbow Dash such a great character. Seriously, bravo Gaiascope.

I liked Dash because her confidence appeared to come from within and wasn't just a façade. It seemed to be fuelled by the enjoyment she got from being *able*.
When you can do things, you have nothing you need to fear, seemed to be her approach to life. Such a strong character was an inspiration to me.
But regardless, this is a wonderful looking piece of art. I especially love those clouds, and that mystical hue to the sky.

I don't think she's free of her self-esteem issues. I'm waiting for that one episode when she speals the beans. For us viewers it's pretty obvious she has them but hides them from her friends (though they may suspect something, especially FS). It's a bit frustraiting.
But yeah more people should see it like this. I think it's basically the core of her character.

I think it would make for a great episode, that could teach a valuable lesson. They kinda explored that side of her personality a little with the "Sonic Rainboom" episode, but they really focused on her fears of not being able to pull off the Rainbow vs insecurities in general. My day would really be made if they not only did an episode which focused on that, but included Scootaloo as well.
A brony can dream, dammit.

Although I hate to think of Rainbow Dash as being too insecure, there have been bits of evidence that imply that you may be right.
In fact, I would guess that the insecurities that Scootaloo has shown may not be all that different from those that Rainbow Dash had, or possibly still has at least on some level.

Now that you mention it... That seems like a very interesting aspect of RD's and Scootaloo's relationship to explore. Scootaloo enforcing her own insecurities because she feels she can't match up to Rainbow's awesomeness, while actually those make her more like Rainbow Dash. And for Rainbow Dash, it could potentially be an eye-opener to see how other's perceive her if Scootaloo tears herself apart over her insecurities.
Or, alternatively, they are magical ponies and I'm overthinking things. But probably the first thing

Yeah.
As arrogant and brash Rainbow Dash looks and acts like, she is sensitive and insecure. Blame her fear to not be the fastest, to be uncool: the fear that the wonderbolts won't accept her because she is not awesome. I'm glad she accepted Scootaloo and being in the wonderbolts camp. Maybe she will mature a bit more, but she will never change.
That's how we love her, no?

I love the way you've drawn RD, I can't quite put my finger on what you've done but it lends itself
extremely well to this piece. The two perspectives is really something I haven't seen much of if any
especially of an mlp character and you did it amazingly.
