Luigi:

The Year of Luigi may be over, but the Man in Green is still going strong. Luigi first made his debut in Mario Bros. in the arcades in 1983, but he didn't get the stardom treatment until Super Mario Bros. was released on the Famicom/NES in 1985. Since then, Luigi's been in almost the same number of games as his brother, Mario. In Luigi's Mansion and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (Luigi's Mansion 2 in Europe), Luigi actually had to confront his fear of ghosts to save Mario from King Boo and his ghastly minions. Luigi's paired up with Mario in the Mario & Luigi series of games for Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS.

(Debut Year: 1983)

Yoshi:

A dog may be man's best friend, but Yoshi is Mario and Luigi's best friend. Yoshi is just one of multiple Yoshis, which are a race of dinosaur-like creatures that have long tongues and are omnivorous. Yoshi had to save Luigi three separate times after the Mario Bros. were born, and Luigi returned the favor by helping Mario and the Baby Mario Bros. defeat a race of creepy purple mushroom-like aliens known as the Shroobs. Yoshi seems to have starred in a few adventures of his own since his appearance in Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo in 1991.

(Debut Year: 1991)

Princess Daisy:

Daisy is Princess Peach to Luigi's Mario, for some reason. First appearing on the Game Boy in 1989's Super Mario Land, this tomboy princess from the kingdom of Sarasaland was rescued by Mario, but was introduced to her boyfriend, Luigi, in NES Open Tournament Golf (Mario Open Golf in Japan) two years later. Ever since she was Luigi's caddy, she had an absence until 2000's Mario Tennis on the Nintendo 64, but she didn't sport her iconic dress until Mario Party 4 for the Nintendo GameCube four years after her return. She may be loud-mouthed, sassy, and arrogant, but she has a soft side for her green-clad boyfriend, Luigi.

(Debut Year: 1989)

Professor Elvin Gadd:

Simply known as Professor E. Gadd, this kooky scientist first appeared in Luigi's Mansion on the Nintendo GameCube in 2001, where he gave Luigi a modified vacuum cleaner named the Poultergust 3000, which aided Luigi in his search for his missing brother, Mario. Two years later, in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga for the Game Boy Advance, he was the manager of Starbeans Café, then in 2005's Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time for Nintendo DS, he aided the Mario Bros. and their infant counterparts with an invention named Stuffwell, as well as a machine that not only stopped an erupting volcano, but also destroyed the remnants of the Shroob aliens.

(Debut Year: 2001)

Pac-Man:

What's yellow, iconic, and eats a lot? Pac-Man, that's who! First appearing in his self-titled game in 1980, Pac-Man is the second-oldest video game character to date. Since his debut, Pac-Man appeared in a platformer, a point-and-click adventure, three Pac-Man World games, a racing game, and even a board game to celebrate his 30th Birthday! The Pac-Man you see before you is the current Pac-Man, who is on a mission to stop an army of evil specters from terrorizing the populace and taking over his home. With the aid of his Power Berries, he can become a balloon, a magnet, a giant, a chameleon, a fireball, a snowball, a boulder, and even...a spider?!

(Debut Year: 1980)

Spiral:

Pac-Man's closest friend, who looks like he could play American football. After his friend, Pac-Man, aroused the wrath of an army of Ghost Monsters, Spiral had no choice but to help Pac-Man save the world from ghosts AND aliens. Armed with a ghost-catching gun, he and Cylindria have to help Pac-Man take down the ghostly army of the evil Betrayus, defend the Tree of Life, and save Pac-World. Here, he aids Luigi, Professor Gadd, and their friends by using his gun to zap foes, which can leave a serious dent in the armor of King Boo's minions. He's not only a loyal friend to Pac-Man, but he could be a loyal friend to Luigi, if the Eternal Understudy is lucky enough.

(Debut Year: 2013)

Cylindria:

Pac-Man's other friend, or so he thinks. While she keeps her feeling for Pac-Man hidden, she often defends him whenever he cleans out the school's cafeteria. Also armed with a ghost-catching gun, she aids Pac-Man and Spiral in the fight against Betrayus and his legions of Ghost Monsters. This pigtailed Pac-Worlder also aids Luigi in Super Luigi RPG, where she uses her gun to electrocute Boos, among other foes. Often, she gets into fights with a Ghost Monster named Pinky, who claims to be in love with Pac-Man. Jealousy doesn't get any bittersweet than that, folks.

(Debut Year: 2013)

Blinky:

The leader of the four Ghost Monsters first appeared in Pac-Man, and since 1980, he's been in pursuit of his yellow rival ever since. Blinky is best noted by his tendencies to chase down Pac-Man and catch him from behind. In Pac-Man Arrangement, with the help of a yellow ghost named Kinky, Blinky sprouts a pair of red bull's horns to tackle Pac-Man with. In Pac-Man World 3, he aids Pac-Man by attacking the Spectral Monsters that are angered by the evil genius, Erwin. In Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, this cocky red ghost may have a bad attitude, but that won't stop him from warning Pac-Man about Betrayus's evil plans.

(Debut Year: 1980)

Inky:

This cyan-colored Ghost Monster made his debut in 1980's Pac-Man. While Blinky prefers to pursue Pac-Man, Inky would rather show his cowardice by fleeing in the opposite direction, often luring Pac-Man into a trap. In Pac-Man Arrangement, the bespectacled ghost named Kinky gives him a pair of cool-looking shades and the power to create a mirror image to fool his yellow archenemy. However, in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, he may give Blinky a hard time, but he's able to assist Pac-Man by telling him about Betrayus's next attempt to invade Pac-World.

(Debut Year: 1980)

Pinky:

As her name suggests, this Ghost Monster is a passion pink, and she made her appearance alongside Pac-Man in 1980. She often tries to corner Pac-Man when he's being chased by the other ghosts, putting the yellow orb in-between a rock and a hard place. With Kinky's help in Pac-Man Arrangement, Pinky sprouts bunny ears and randomly hops around the maze. In Pac-Man World 3, she helps Pac-Man by making platforms appear and disappear. In Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, she may have a rivalry with Cylindria, but she often warns Pac-Man about what Betrayus is going to do next.

(Debut Year: 1980)

Clyde:

This dopey-looking Ghost Monster in orange first appeared in Pac-Man in the year 1980. Unlike the other ghosts, his movements are random, but predictable. He obtains the same physique that you see him now after being aided by Kinky in Pac-Man Arrangement, and spits out large Pac-Dots to impede Pac-Man's progress in the maze. In Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, he's a loveable oaf who happens to be an excellent cook, is very emotional, and is often the peacemaker of the four ghosts. Sometimes, he's even too chicken to tell Pac-Man about Betrayus's next evil plan, for fear that the ghostly tyrant might catch on.

(Debut Year: 1980)
