Chapter 1: Rescue and Uprising

"MAAARIOOO!!!"

That was the call of Princess Peach, who was kidnapped once again by Bowser, along with her two friends, Daisy and Rosalina. Mario and Luigi woke up, responding to the cry for help by exiting their home and making haste towards Peach's Castle. Bowser, who was holding the three females and Yoshi hostage, said, "Your precious plumber won't save you this time! As soon as I'm done with him and his pesky brother, the Mushroom Kingdom will be mine for the taking!"

Mario kicked the doors open as he said, "Not if-a I have anything to say about it, Bowser!"

Bowser turned around, and to his shock, it was the Mario Brothers that he saw. Luigi then spotted two bags moving on their own. Upon closer inspection, it was actually the Mario Bros.' rivals, Wario and Waluigi, stealing treasure as Bowser's son, Bowser Jr., gave them orders. Bowser then said, "Looks like the Mario Bros. have come out to play!"

Bowser took a deep breath, then shot a large fireball from his mouth, which Mario jumped over. Luigi was busy dealing with Bowser Jr., Wario, and Waluigi while Mario was fighting the Koopa King. The entire Koopa Troop watched from a distance before something got their attention. Mario and Bowser threw punch after punch at each other, with one of the Koopa King's punches missing Mario and instead hitting the cage that the princesses and Yoshi were trapped in, causing it to break. The fight between the both of them then spilled out into the Grass Land area outside of the castle.

As the fight went on, Mario grabbed Bowser by the tail and threw him to the ground, leaving a large crater. The Koopa King got back to his feet, only to launch more fireballs at Mario. From the distance, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong both watched the fight go on as they were enjoying their bananas. The next punch by Mario sent Bowser careening into a ? Block, which released a Metal Mushroom. Bowser then picked up the mushroom and ate it, thus transforming him into living metal.

He then said, "Now, Mario, face the fury of METAL BOWSER!"

Mario knew he was in trouble, as Bowser threw a metal-powered punch at the mustached plumber, launching him into another ? Block, this one containing a Fire Flower. Mario grabbed the flora and transformed into Fire Mario. Mario then threw fireballs at his metallic nemesis, which Bowser tried to block. He then counterattacked by launching a large fireball at his arch-enemy. Mario evaded the attack as it left a medium-sized crater in its wake.

Meanwhile, Luigi was busy with his Poultergust 5000 as he vacuumed up several Boos that Bowser Jr. tried to attack him with. Luigi said, "I'm-a not scared of you three!"

Knowing that they were in trouble, the trio of troublemakers tried to approach the Airship, but to their shock, it was gone, as was the entire Koopa Troop. Bowser Jr. growled and said, "COWARDS! THEY RETREATED TO THE KOOPA KINGDOM!"

Mario and Bowser continued to fight in the plains, throwing punches, kicks, and fireballs at each other. When two of the fireballs collided, it caused an explosion that cost Bowser his Metal power and cost Mario his Fire power. Both were exhausted, but just then, Bowser's Airship flew overhead as Bowser himself chased it. Mario wasn't going to let his mortal nemesis get away that easily, so he followed him to the Koopa Kingdom. Bowser Jr., Wario, Waluigi, and Luigi all followed behind them, with the latter of the four falling on his face before getting back up.

The Koopa Kingdom was a desolate wasteland surrounded by magma. The only building there was Bowser's Castle, which the Airship stopped near. Bowser caught up with the Airship as he said, "Get back here, you turncoats!"

One of the Koopalings, Roy Koopa, said, "Shut up, dude!"

Another one, Iggy Koopa, then said, "Yeah, we have a new master now!"

Bowser snarled, "TRAITORS! YOU'LL ALL PAY FOR THIS!"

The other five Koopalings droned in with the first two as they said, "All Hail Hazel. All Hail Hazel."

Bowser wondered, "Who in the world is this Hazel person? And what do they want with my troops?"

The Airship's cannons pointed at the castle as a Hammer Bro. shouted, "FOR THE GLORY OF HAZEL, OPEN FIRE!"

The cannons fired at Bowser's Castle, and within minutes, the castle was nothing more than a heap of rubble. Mario, Bowser Jr., Wario, Waluigi, and Luigi watched the destruction of the castle in absolute shock. Bowser said to himself, "My-my castle..."

The Koopa King balled up both of his fists in anger as he shouted, "BLAST YOU, HAZEL!"

Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, DK, Diddy, and Yoshi all caught up with the others. Waluigi then said to himself, "Hazel... Why does-a that name sound familiar?"

Bowser then turned to everyone and said, "Everyone, I have a confession to make. You see, the real reason why I kidnap Princess Peach is because I was orphaned as a child. My parents were killed during a great war between the Koopas and another race. I was left in the care of Kamek, my adviser and guardian at the time, because he was the only one who my parents trusted. Before my kidnapping sprees began, I dated another Koopa, but she had died too, leaving an egg that contained my son, Bowser Jr., and that's why he takes after me."

Bowser finished with, "I had adopted the Koopalings as my temporary children before my son was hatched. I had also inherited my castle from my deceased parents, which was the only thing they cherished besides peace in their kingdom. Now, thanks to this Hazel person, my castle is gone and so are my troops."

Luigi cried during Bowser's confession, as Daisy comforted the man in green. Bowser then said, "My son is the only thing I have left, but I swear, this Hazel person will pay for the damage they did to my castle, and will pay for turning my Koopa Troop against me."

Kamek, who had inspected the destroyed castle, said, "In all seriousness, we never meant any ill will towards anyone. This means that I had kidnapped Luigi when he was an infant because I thought he and his brother were going to do something like this to the castle in the far future."

Mario then spoke up as he said, "Me and-a my bro would-a never do something like-a that!"

Kamek continued, "This means that all the fights between us were for nothing. From the first invasion of the Mushroom Kingdom, I feared that His Cruelness's troops would turn against him. And now that it has happened, I fear that the worst is yet to come."

Bowser extended his hand as he asked, "Can you ever forgive us for what we've done in the past thirty-plus years?"

Mario then accepted and said, "Sure, Bowser. Now, let's-a find out who this-a Hazel person is."

Waluigi then spoke up and said, "Guys, I remember something! Hazel was the name of a female general that I fought once!"

Rosalina then thought, 'So, we're up against someone named General Hazel, eh? It looks like we'll have to work together to stop her.'

Unbeknownst to Bowser, his entire troop, including the Koopalings, released holograms of said Koopalings in seven different places around the Mushroom World. From her space station, General Hazel said, "So, the almighty Koopa King has found out about my plans, eh? No matter. It will just be a matter of time before I take over the entire world! AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!"

Back down below, Mario said, "Are you all-a ready?"

Everyone put their hands in, then lifted them up and shouted, "HERE WE GO!"

And so, the grandest journey in Mushroom Kingdom history has begun...
