Description Prosapient design had originally only planned for the eventuality of controlling the native Neimadian population and potential Ameran insurgents. As a result, most of the design of their personal armor revolves around the idea of urban combat, whether in cities or within cache vessels.

The prosapient sees via eight lenses mounted to the helmet. Four in the front grant high resolving power, enhanced zoom, various spectral graphs and a full HUD layout. The upper two are primarily for relative tracking with other units to automatically protect against friendly fire. The final two are located on the back of the helmet. Most prosapients have no trouble interpreting the double signal, although some find the experience slightly nauseating.

Prosapient? Is that a political group or a species name?

They're products of eugenics. Barely human any more, but more than human.

Eugenics... on what level? Arranged breeding and elimination, or direct genetic artificial meddling?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gannadene In reply to CrabTasterMan [2011-03-26 07:59:06 +0000 UTC]

Both. They breed characteristics in themselves, test themselves in to-the-death combat, genetically manipulate what need be, and cull genetic strains they deem inferior. They're cold, emotionless and focused. They only care about improving humanity.

CrabTasterMan In reply to Gannadene [2011-03-26 14:48:18 +0000 UTC]

But there are so many genes that can't be culled through combat, nor advantageous when done so. Like simple things like resistances to certain pathogens (of course, evolutionary wise this may in turn guide evolution in the pathogen to exploit this once-resistant pattern... unless they don't get lucky enough and just die out/have yet to exploit this niche).

and besides, not everyone can possibly have all the alleles for any gene, (natural and artificial alleles) so evolution as a population (which what evolution IS but so many people think it's only on the scale of individuals) so does that mean there are numerous "paths" to take? What is the fluff for those occasions?

I love fluff. Both making and reading.

They use various ways of selecting for and against, including exposing themselves to illnesses and documenting the results. They're also fairly diverse, genetically. They know not to believe one trait is always going to be better than the other. I think of them as sort of like my universe's space marines, in a way, with a bunch of various unique chapters that focus on one thing or another.

Sounds like its time to breakout the high octane nightmare fuel. Real life can be scarier.

That sounds like they are going to do a lot of live human experiments and vivisections. Germany's Josef Mengele and Japan's Unit 731 would be good places to glean off of! Sick scary shit.

Are there chapters or are there specialists of various extremes within a chapter? Cuz isolated chapters pretty much deters "situational response."

Haven't decided yet. In the novel they aren't that important. They're just there to point out the flaws of artificially trying to manufacture perfection.

Various middle class people, trying to survive their world destroying itself.

To be honest I was surprised you wanted the Prosapients to be rendered as "futile". That made it all the more interesting. But riot armor? Do they have any noncombatants to stop?

At one point in the story they are used against some citizens.

CrabTasterMan In reply to Gannadene [2011-03-27 17:05:09 +0000 UTC]

They have their own citizens? Or are they some faction living within a population as a parasite like mafia/triads/knights/samurais?

They're a government project in a normal society. They get pulled into public service due to a crisis.

but ever a potential insurgent/heretic... how bout that visor? Would a well placed shot to face work out well for me? (as in bad for him ? xD )

Now this is looking more realistically futuristic than those Space Marine Models.

Interesting idea on the sensor feeds for the back of the head, think I have heard of something similliar in the Future Warrior Exo Suit I think.

Looks great man.

Ah ok I figured there whould be, so is it ment to take small arms fire? or more like normal Riot armor to protect against thrown objects and hand to hand?

Gannadene In reply to dragonsamurai7 [2010-01-07 23:30:03 +0000 UTC]

Illegal firearms is a big problem in Neimadia, so they're made for heavy combat situations, as well. They can withstand most higher caliber weapons found on the streets.

I wonder what kind of loadout these guys usually have.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gannadene In reply to Vlaskiyov [2010-01-07 16:58:16 +0000 UTC]

They're squad-based, so it varies from unit to unit. A lot of their weapons are experimental, but they also have a lot of weapons that are exclusively made for crowd control. They deploy with what they need.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vlaskiyov In reply to Gannadene [2010-01-07 19:26:27 +0000 UTC]

Sounds military enough. You ever plan to draw anymore concept art of these guys in squads with their load-outs?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gannadene In reply to Vlaskiyov [2010-01-07 23:30:30 +0000 UTC]

There's a lot of Nahala reference material to draw, so probably not for a while.

very cool, except the only memorable thing here is the helmet.
but it's not a bad thing though.
no one would recognize a space marine without the GIANT PAULDRONS or that halo-guy without his helmet either.
8/10.

Yup. Wanted it to look realistic enough that you might mistake it for something that really exists.
